Default Sometimes ya just gotta hit it with an axe

I have a Hiawatha .22 tube fed repeater

The front sight was a bit bent. The rear sight is one of those dove tail/philips screw into it type deals

I was looking at it yesterday wondering why I spent $29 on this thing......it looks to be worth less than that.....

Eyeballing the sights it appeared the rear sight was dovetailed fairly centre, but the actual sight was off to the right. And bent too

I took a plier and bent the front sight until it kinda looked straight.

I used a nail and axe to drift the rear sight dovetail over to the side until it looked like it actually centered with the front sight

Today I drove out in the country with it to shoot it and maybe pop a grouse or a rabbit

Sure enough, i spot a grouse sitting under a spruce tree. I get out, put a short .22 shell into the rifle, aim for the grouses head, and killed it.......about 20 yd shot

Thinking it was probably a fluke, I built a fire, and as the hot dog cooked, i decided to fire the .22 again, this time at a small cut off log face. Paced it off at 20 yds

Dead center. Lol

I should have taken an axe and a nail to that gun years ago..........

Sometimes things just work out. Today was that day for me

I saw the title, and thought maybe you took a trip to Ottawa.
But then I remembered that political threads weren't allowed anymore.

Axe, nail, pliers. The precision tools of any competent gunsmith.

Although taking the axe to Ottawa sounded way more beneficial.

Hey, an axe , nail and pliers could work to smarten up some people in Ottawa.

And even if it didn't work, a fellow would feel better after trying.

You could totally do it

I sometimes use JB weld on sights, once i get them set. Then theres no messing around later thinking your sights got bumped.

Nevermind the $29 you spent on the rifle, how much did you spend on those precision tools??

My gunsmith years ago use a small cedar shingle roofing nail to repair the trigger in a model 600 running rabbit .22. That nail lasted 10's of thousands of rounds and was still going strong when I sold the rifle for parts, due to head space issues. Still miss that rifle.

And yes I have adjusted sights with nails, screw drivers... now I use nice brass punches.
