When I had my place in Joussard, it was exceptionally rare to see a shack or vehicle on the ice until after Christmas. I'm not sure how this year would be earlier. I'd check the ice carefully and don't trust the locals with your safety. I've seen some crazy $^%& on that lake.

P.S. There are some some...errr...sunken objects in and around Joussard that offer good fishing.

There is a gas hole that forms from seeping natural gas from the lake bottom on the west end, from Shaw's Point about 2/3 across in a straight line south.

This bubble effect keeps the ice very thin in that area, and it seems move around.

Try to stay on someone else's track in that area. Swerve if you see a hole.

I just read post on Facebook fishing Alberta, there is one outfitter with two shacks out on the northwest end. Ice is 15”, he was driving his 1/2 ton truck to the shacks. Getting lots of flax from people. There is no snow on the lake, great year for making ice early.

This is so true. I’ve seen them for myself, and they give you the ultimate pucker factor for sure. I’ve seen one of these gas pockets on Fawcett lake as well.

Really hoping to drive on from Joussard the 20th. If anyone sees shacks out there or knows the driving conditions onto the lake from Joussard an update would be much appreciated.

Sounds like there will be >15" for sure, but supposed to be snow off and on until then also.

Thanks

The kid and I made it to joussard at 2. I told myself 15” was safe. First check at 1/2 way out was 15” on the dot. 17” just before the drop off so actually was thicker further out.

I’d say 6/10 drive ability. You could probably get stuck if you tried.

Best of luck to you. Let us know how the ice and access is over kinuso way.

Not much snow. Just need to avoid the drifts.

The bite is really slow but I’m not I’m not in the best spot. Seeing some marks. No takers. Few jack. Few stolen minnows. gorgeous out.

Went to Canyon Creek this morning. Could only see 2 shacks set up. Big new ice crack with lots of flooding. Very few atv tracks so I went to Joussard. About 50 shacks out ,some trucks lots of atv’s and sleds. 18” of ice. Caught a few nice walleye and pike. Saw some nice perch on camera but couldn’t get them to bite. Saw a few whites too.
Waiting to hear about the narrows conditions before I drive up there

Anyone know if there is a place to off load and park at Joussard? Prefer to take the sled and leave the truck on shore.

Thanks!

Don't park in the parking lot at the community hall (big silver quonset a block of the lake). The locals don't even like other locals parking there.

I had a recreational property right in Joussard for close to a decade until recently. I wouldn't leave anything unattended in that place. There's a reason there's a RCMP detachment nearby in Faust.

Was at the Narrows today. Easily 18-20 inches of ice. One guy out there with his half ton. 8-10 shacks out there.

There is some shattered ice that refrozen really rough on the way out. I didn’t check the thickness all the way out, so my thickness is only at the shack area.

Fishing was slow for us today. Very light bite and lots of looks, but few takers.

How much snow around Joussard? Enough for sleds? Just wondering if it is worth bringing.

18 to 20 inches where I have measured at Joussard. But my son found a 3 meter open water spot between Joussard and Hillard while out on the sled. Must be one of the gas pockets. Be careful.

Went to the narrows today. 18” ice. Lots of shacks and vehicles out.
There are some drifts that people were getting stuck on. Anymore snow and we’re going to need tracked vehicles.
Talked to the people camping, they weren’t catching much. Got some nice walleye for New Year’s supper tomorrow. Beautiful day to end the year
