Default Inexpensive Rem 700 Blue Print Long action

Defiance, Fierce and alike are awesome but all expensive by the time they land here. Does anyone have any recommendation on a custom Rem 700 blue print that doesnt break the bank?

Not sure of your budget, but have you looked at a KS Arms wolverine made in Edmonton?

Under 1k. Yes I have looked at them. If I was to spend 1.7k, I would buy a Defiance machine.

Defiance tenacity is the lowest priced option they make. Did you get a quote on that one or a rebel?

Bighorn I believe has a base model action as well.

Stiller may also be more affordable.

All of these will be north of 1k.

Someone mentioned a while back that some of the newer rem 700 actions were very true and do not need blueprinting. Could start with one of them if you know the production years or serial number range.

Well, my smithy charges $100 to true the lugs but I am still wondering if that alone is enough to par with a custom action.

Another idea is look at the bergara rifles. Believe they use the same triggers and stocks as rem 700. Not sure about barrel contours though and how they would fit and or bottom metal.

You could buy a Christensen Mesa rifle for the price of an action. I believe they are Rem footprint.

Definitely not.

However I bet if you pair a bare bones rem700 action with a good quality match grade barrel chambered properly and installed stress free in a quality stock it will still shoot excellent.

Usually a truing job on a rem 700 as a minimum involves re cutting the threads, facing the lug seats, action shoulder and bolt face as well as lapping the lugs. Some people take it to the extreme and have work done to the bolt raceways and have the bolt sleeved but I’m not sure that is worth the $ your getting into custom action territory at that point and a trued rem 700 doesn’t have any where near the same resale.

I have 3 rifles based of rem 700 actions with basic blueprinting done and they all shoot fantastic. I’d like to try a full custom at some point but for now I’ve been satisfied with a tuned up factory action.

Yep, that’s my vote also.

I think I know what your saying by same trigger and stock but want to clarify. Bergara is a rem 700 clone and uses the same stock patterns and style triggers. They are interchangeable. The factory Bergara stock and trigger is much better than the factory Remington stocks and triggers.

Their barrels could be better too!

That is a good lower priced option. My go to hunting rifle is built on a Stiller, but that was built when components were much cheaper.
