Well that's good. Some people frown on shooting Melanistic Peasants.

I think shooting Melanomic pheasants would be doing them a favor.
They're kind of the Liberace's of the pheasant world.

I wasn't trying to be precise. But I do know the numbers I saw were well above 23 or 24 for this site.
This site is not stocked the same as southern sites. One reason would be we don't have the number of hunters here you see down south.
This regions total population is probably less then number of bird hunters in your area.
But why does it matter what the numbers were. Does every post have to be 100% correct to be allowed?

Even your 23-24 per site may be optimistic for the northern sites, considering they are only releasing these birds for such a short time in the northern sites.

One release a week for nine weeks.
Yeah maybe my numbers were off. So what.
As I said I wasn't trying to be precise.
Seems your numbers are a bit off too.

Makes me wonder if any of the dark ones if released down south could possibly survive and breed into the wild population.I wonder if they released any of the dark females too. They are nice.

Melanistic roosters are like the Bruce Willis of the Pheasant World.
They are super tough, resilient birds , can run like the Devil, and fly really hard.
They also can beat the crap out of a young dog about as well as a goose, and will beat up pure Chinese or blue back roosters like nobody's business!

We've run into them for years on occasion down south .

Sept 1 through Oct 13 for the Northwest sites, is not 9 weeks, it's more like 6, and given that the melanistic birds are only being released the last half of October, at most there will be one release with melanistic birds at those sites.
https://www.ab-conservation.com/prog...release-sites/
As for my numbers, 1000 out of around 28,000 is less than 4%.

9 weeks is what ab-conservation.com said. I didn't pull that number out of my hat.
from the Alberta Conservation Association Project Summary Report
Quote:
To increase pheasant hunting opportunities in northern Alberta, we partnered with members of the Peace River Fish & Game club to raise 760 roosters along with 980 McFarlane roosters to release at the Lac Cardinal and Whitetail North sites.
Nine releases occurred at both these sites
|
9 weeks is not more like 6, your math is off.

Now my question is, Why are you trying so hard to derail this thread?

The topic of the thread is melanistic pheasants, I should know, I started it. And as such, the number of melanistic birds released is right on topic.

Whether you pulled your information out of your hat, or out of the other end, it isn't correct. Even the driver confirmed the ACA information when I spoke to him.

LOL So arguing about how many releases there were has to do with how many melanistic birds were released, how?
Didn't you just say the melanistic birds were released separately?
If you didn't ab conservation sure did.
You know what. I'll take the hit. hand me my infraction and get it over with so we can get back on topic.

No I did not post that the released birds were released separately, and in fact ACA stated that they were mixed in with their regular releases. The driver that I spoke to also confirmed that.
Right from the ACA
https://www.ab-conservation.com/prog...lease-program/
Quote:
Starting in mid-October we will be releasing up to 1000 melanistic ringneck pheasants mixed in with our regular ringneck releases. Melanistic ringneck pheasants are the same as the pheasants we normally release, but have a natural genetic mutation. This gives them a striking, dark, iridescent plumage.
|
And given that the releases were completed at those northwestern sites, a week ago, people should be aware that there aren't going to be any more melanistic pheasants showing up their this fall.

What infraction? Unlike some people, I am not going to go whining to the mods or the office complaining because someone keeps posting false information on my thread.
I just provided the correct information, so people aren't headed out to those release sites expecting nine weeks of releases, when they are already completed at the sites you mentioned.

Who said anything about whining to anyone. Only you did.

You are the one that brought up an infraction, twice in fact. How else would you get an infraction, unless someone went whining to the mods or the office?
You posted incorrect information, the correct information has been posted with links to prove it, so why not leave it at that?

Are you suggesting I would ask a moderator to give me an infraction?
If so, why would you care?
My numbers were off, I admitted that, why are you making such a big deal out of it.
Do you really think AO members are so simple they wouldn't check for themselves before going. I sure don't.

Obviously you didn't verify what you posted, before posting it. If you didn't make the effort, some other AO members may not have either.

Great Pheasant! Very cool to see and I appreciate the share!
So many threads turn to bickering. Can't you just argue in pm's and leave the rest of us out of it?
