Moose season in wmu 305?
I’m staring to do some scouting to do a moose hunt next year and I noticed there is no moose season in 305. Am I reading it wrong or not looking in the right spot in the regulations? If there is no season anyone know why. Thanks and a happy thanksgiving to everyone.

There is no season for moose in 305. Unless you are indigenous.

A good portion of Alberta doesn’t have a moose season. The reason is bio’s don’t believe the population can sustain a hunt. For the most part start putting in for draws or bow hunt where there is an archery season
Been years since I have hunted 305 but I have seen moose there in the past

There is your answer mulie.
305 Moose are "Reserved" for the Piikani and Kainai Nations.

Always surprised me that 305 doesn’t have a moose hunt , can’t say I’m to familiar with 305 actually, but have seen a ton of moose just to the north in 304

Thanks all I was just curious, I have a spot picked out in 400 for next year just need to do some more scouting. Might have a look at 304 as well. It’s fun just to get out and have a look.

If you have the 18 years of priority For 400, I’m not sure I would burn it for 304. Just my opinion.

Well, you will have lots of time to have fun looking while you build up priority for many years. Takes forever to draw a moose tag in the south.

400 will be 25 years before we know it. Better look elsewhere.

You have a good point Matt I have a 23 priority, so might be best to stick to 400.

400 is your best bet with that priority, dont waste it on 304. At least in 400 you wont get drawn just to be denied permission on private land

Not trying to get into the FN rights here, but a few years ago I bumped into a FN fellow in 400 and he was moose hunting, he had a bull in the back already and said he had shot 10 others bulls that year and was hoping to shot 15 by Christmas. We kinda got into a heated discussion about non FN can shot one every 15 years and he wants to shot 15 in one year. Long story short I called F$W to quiz them about this and was informed that the only reason they only give out 5 tags for 400 is because they know the FN guys will kill at least another 50 to 60 moose... 😡😡😡

The whole southwest has drastically limited moose licences due to F&W conceding 90% plus of allowable harvest to FN hunters.
Such as 0 moose licences in 305.
If F&W knew the FN hunter's name, they might investigate if this person selling is moose meat....
If the boasting is true, then the likelihood that it is being done for $ is very high.
In the past, F&W has been quite active and effective in addressing illegal hunting activities by local FN people.

I was telling a fn guy on a job site that I’ve known for years that it takes me 14 yrs in one zone and 18 yrs in another. He told me he’ll kill dozens and dozens and dozens before I get one draw. This is definitely a reason for long waits down here

After seeing pics of multiple whitetail bucks, I asked what he does with all the meat ? “ put it in the oven and feed it to the dogs “ was his answer. There is a reason for all the animosity to them. It’s not just “ jealousy “. That’s without getting into all the winter sheep harvests

Back in early 2000's or so I hunted 304 and 305 every year for years, both bow and rifle, and in all those years I saw one bull moose. And I believe 305 was about a 12 year draw at that time.
