Went out there yesterday...a few trucks out...not as congested as French Bay Area....just be careful as the creeks/river leading in are not frozen and are open and flowing so traveling around the shore edges might end up not favourable.
I went out from the boat launch straight out and man there was a lot of popping etc so if I go again it will be on the quad just don't like the unstable feeling.
Oh yeah and leaving the provincial park yesterday saw the Fish Cops a coming
Good to see cuz it was getting really busy kinda like walmart
Going to venture over today and get my spot back
Good luck out there.

Fished until about 2:30 today, fishing was steady at times and conditions were awesome. It was nice to see Fish and Wildlife out there checking licenses! Caught and released 30 healthy lake trout! Cheers

So what's actual thickness now? And how'd the snow cover end up after whatever rain you've got. I have 3 more weeks til I get up there. Like hearing everything.

Just got back and I'd say average in that 14-15" range. Drilled as little as 13" in the middle of the mouth of french bay and as much as 18" in front of the park point but it definitely varied. Just had the truck this trip so decided to stick to the more popular areas and not venture off the beaten path to far. People seemed to be driving all over though without issue. Snow cover maybe a few inches.
Fishing wasn't lights out for us whatsoever but no shortage of action on the flashers and ended up with 16 lakers over a couple days fishing the mornings. Tried for some burbs in the evenings and nothing happening for us. Only one laker that would have just been keeper size but I haven't got the nerve to try another one just yet so back it went .
Freezing rain over night as mentioned but what a nice couple days it was over all. Piles of people out today out enjoying the weather, great to see.

Personally I think lake trout taste terrible compared to other game fish, especially large ones. I also don't enjoy harvesting a fish that takes so long to grow in size.

The little ones are great table fare but regs state keepers are way too big plus that's getting into our breeders so over they go......
image.jpg
This spoon produces......100' of water.....down she goes for a few bounces off the bottom fast retrieve....slow down...speed up...repeat if no fish on....had them chase right to the hole.....dont have to over think the process these are lakers which will pretty much eat anything that comes thier way just gotta scratch thier bellies
+2 on the lake and real sunny out....great day to just sit and soak in the Rays....did a count around us as far as I could see and counted 51 ice tents and then drove over to French bay and there was a huge tow behind camper out front of the ski hill....ruffling it!!!!

The bigger ones just aren't good I find. Maybe there is a way to cook the gross out of them but I'd rather just throw them back and as Egymcara stated it takes a long time to grow a decent size laker.

If that was your rig wow is all I can say...there was an older camper out and some shacks too...great to see.
Kinda wish there would be little ice shack communities pop up and a little eatery too...

Indeed it is us. We’re friendly. Just like to be warm at night. And while fishing.
I’m down for food too! Anyone wanna do a run for us to Memphis Blues? We’ll take an Elvis Platter.
You guys have skip the dishes?

I want to thank everyone here for all their help. Had and awesome two days ice fishing Cold Lake for the first time. Day one was a learning curve . We still landed 9 Lakers between the two of us. Biggest was 50 cms. Day two was sooo much fun. We landed 12 using the chase method on the Helix. (Weavster thank you for the instructional Videos on that technique). It was like playing a video game. What a rush !!!!! Can't wait to go back. Tight lines every one.

Was out this weekend. We caught some but was slow I’d say. Mostly out from the marina in 90 fow.
Tried over by French bay too. Did better at marina.
