yep a few people starting to venture around the corner of garnett. Ice was good where I was with a few heaves showing up here and there. As always use caution on that lake as the ice shifts very frequently.

Ya I actually didn't go out further u til you went by...I followed your tracks then veered off and settled in for about four hours or so....I caught them on a spoon though
Gonna need to work on this skill set.

Was thinking of hanging a left at the provincial park boat launch and heading straight out to what I believe is the hump (3km from the provincial park). Guessing Ice is around 8”. Thinking of targeting 80 FOW. Probably will head out this weekend. Hopefully I’ll have some luck.

Heading out Sunday to try my luck for the full day it’s my first time in cold lake. Do these big cold fronts affect the fishing much? I’m not much of a fisher! Also I won’t be that guy to put the truck on the ice and take a swim with the fish!

This snap only makes for thicker ice....bite is slow but they are there....watch weavsters videos on presentation and what to use etc....bang bottom and reel up...stop...reel up again going through the various depths....seems to be a lot of chasers that you gotta fool into bitting....good luck!

Any folks venturing out anywheres in SUV/Truck or just quad so far? I prefer at least 12” of solid ice before I take the SUV out. With the past few nights being so cold I bet we are getting close to that. Truck guage said -36 at 6:30 this morning on the way to work

On Weavster's Video he caught a few good sized ones.
The question is, after this cold spell can a person drive onto Cold lake with a half ton truck?

I would be cautious still....watch for heaves as the lake is moving now under these cold temps....you can drive around the perimeter to get to you destination...walk out and drill and see what your getting for measurements or just see what's happening if there are vehicles all over the place your good to go but still be cautious.

The wife and I went for a coffee and drove to the provincial park after work. There are tracks of guys heading out in trucks from the boat launch. I’ll be one of them tomorrow.
And don’t forget to stop at Emma’s on the way by. Good deserts to grab on the way out. And Cold Lake Krushers.

There were multiple trucks drive across last week while I was out. I personally wouldn’t at that time but the ice in the deep water has been exponentially thickening.

Thank you Macdon. Hopefully after this cold snap the ice will be a lot safer.

The ice was 8-9” 3 weeks ago in the deep water. Early last week it was 11-16” in the deep water depending on the area. Closer to shore or shallow bays were almost 20” ( if you’re chasing something other than lake trout). I will probably be driving out there myself Monday. Last week there were numerous trucks out WELL past where I was with the quad.
Fishing was slow in the cold. A lot more action before the cold hit. Hoping next week it will be back to normal. Best of luck.

Had 13 inches of ice out over 100ft of water off the provincial park. The truck didn’t complain. Guys where driving further past us and pretty much everywhere.

Wouldn't be surprised if the ice made a big move this week with the temperature warming up substantially.
