Shotshells with rubber pellets..?
Anyone have any experience with them? Or know where they can be purchased?

I used to buy from Margo Supplies. I never really found them to be all the effective as a bear deterrent. If you have a problematic bear in the area they will return once they figure out the pain is only temporary. If its a new bear they work.
Edit* It looks like they now sell rubber slugs and single projectile shells now.

Rubber pellets don't really do the job ... rubber 'slugs' are the way to go.
One example . . .

We used to reload with the largest chunk rock salt you could find 20 years ago. More for humans in the yard kind of stuff.

Use rubber slugs quite often as critter deterrent. Some that have been slugged more than a few times or are extremely habituated and food conditioned will bear the pain. Others run away and if you mix the slugging with noise or bear spray etc... will have a negative conditioning effect on the critter. I've used them on bull bison and they work real well most of the time. Follow it up with cracker shells when they are running away and it is effective. Does everything work 100% of the time? No, but its better than shooting and wounding a bear resulting in a ticked off injured bruin hanging around!

Cause it would be overkill for mice.

IF your intended target happens to come into range in a self defence type situation your likely better off with real slugs so the "thing" your defending yourself from wont be able to testify in court.....
Just saying.....
They are pretty expensive rounds to just fool around with.

The 600 fps ones at cabelas hurt like hell at 30 yds
It's like banging your shin on a hitch and getting stung by a bee on the shin at the same time

When I read the title I thought of people defence not bears. It would be nice if some one broke into your house and you could slap there pecker with some 12 gauge rubber. But this is Canada and they would probably give you 5-10 for protecting your family.

Between the price of them and lack of a real purpose for me, I'm losing interest. Thanks for all the replies.
