Default 2019 Ice Reports

IMO the 2 are quiet different. I agree with your advice on caution. I would add extreme caution, and regardless of what other people are doing. It won’t be long until a Darwin candidate drives on.

Default Badger Lake

Howdy gang - walked on at the north end of Badger and had incredible ice. We were a good 300yds out from the island and it was a solid 8" of black ice. Not quite ready to drive on but more than good to walk on with all the gear.

Newell update?

I've seen the one report, but hoping to take my eldest (8) out this weekend...but I want to ensure we are good to go before I load him up for the long drive.

Thanks!

Was that the report of the drowning?

I’m certain your good to stick around shore, but I wouldn’t go blindly walking out to spots. I’d suggest by the boat launch at Kinbrook and leave jr on shore till you’ve tested things yourself.
Not suggesting your a fool, but Newell’s no playground.
North end was reported at 5 in last week.

"went out yesterday (Sunday Dec 8, 2019) Ice was great, 10"+ of good black ice. Fishing was slow until sun hit the lake then was pretty good from 60-80 fow. "

Eagle has 7.5 - 8 in. I didn’t get a good look at the ice, but judging by the weather and the small car I seen drive on the ice, I’m presuming it’s good ice.
Was only there 2 hours but no friends. Possible nibble / minnow robbery but with my mitts on I wasn’t sure. A few shacks near the launch, and I’m curious how they got there. Guessing quad or sled.
Won’t be long till the lake turns into Range Road 245, lol.

Calling had 7 - 8" of good black ice in front of the townsite on Saturday afternoon.

A STRANGE shaped ice heave is about 1000 yards off shore, in an oval shape. Did not get close enough to test but the ice slab was about 7 inches on the uplifted parts so PLEASE be careful if you try to cross. Test any crossing point first with an auger as it could be a separation that re froze and is actually thin ice.

Fishing is fine.

Hit up Lac La Nonne today. 6 to 7 inches of good clear ice. 3 inches or so of snow cover. A guy did drive out a 100 yards or so with his half ton. Drilled a check hole, seen 7 inches of ice and promptly left.

Fishing was slow.

New FLX-28 was awesome.
