The "Correct" sight can vary greatly for a specific gun depending on whether they are a standard issued rifle or a custom ordered piece. Even standard issue rifles came with a variety of sights. First step would be to get a letter on them detailing as much info as exists to tell when made, where shipped to, sold to whom etc and what accessories or addons were on the guns.
The data included in factory letters and serial number searches varies from firearm to firearm, but may contain the following information:
Manufacturing dates
Stock and butt configuration
Caliber
Sights
Barrel length and shape
Magazine length
Trigger
