Smile What to do? 7mm or 300wm

I don't know if this will help but I would go with whatever you wanted to, to begin with. They are both good calibers but you likely did some research into the 7mm before you ordered it and you where comfortable with that order till you found one for a few bucks cheaper and if you have a bad day with your gun you won't find yourself saying ( I should have went with what I wanted in the beginning ). I shoot a Browning A- Bolt 7 wsm and I really enjoy it but I will be getting a different recoil I find it kicks a little harder than my rheumatism likes. I find it is good at the ranges that you are talking about but I have only used it on deer. Good Luck

( remember if you don't draw blood it was just an expensive camping trip )

I have had the 7mm and the 300win. I would go with the 300. I think if reloading then the trajectory is the same, and the 300 will have more power. If you shoot 165's in the 300 it might even shoot flatter than say 160's in the 7mm. All that said if the 7mm is ordered it will kill just as much as a 300. Too bad you didn't find the deal earlier. As for recoil, practice and it won't feel that bad.

I carreid a 300 Win Mag for 12 consecutive seasons...I only killed maybe 12 head of game with it..two elk, a couple bears and numerous deer...and a couple coyotes...every dang animal could have been taken with a 30-06 or a 308....which leads me to believe that the 7mm Rem Mag is plenty of cartridge for this country....

Here's a ballistic comparison of a couple examles of Hornady ammo from thier website.

There's not enough difference to notice but you might notice the lighter recoil of the 7 Mag

.300 Win. Mag., 165 gr. SST 82024
Velocity (fps) / Energy (ft-lbs)
Muzzle 100 yd 200 yd 300 yd 400 yd 500 yd
3100/3520 2883/3044 2676/2623 2478/2250 2289/1920 2108/1628

Trajectory (inches)
Muzzle 100 yd 200 yd 300 yd 400 yd 500 yd
-1.50 1.30 0.00 -6.20 -18.10 -36.60

7MM Rem Mag 154 gr SST 8062
Velocity (fps) / Energy (ft-lbs)
Muzzle 100 yd 200 yd 300 yd 400 yd 500 yd
3035/3149 2852/2781 2677/2449 2508/2150 2345/1880 2189/1638

Trajectory (inches)
Muzzle 100 yd 200 yd 300 yd 400 yd 500 yd
-1.5 1.4 0.0 -6.2 -18.0 -36.1

I'm planing on shooting hornady HM 139gr interbond to start and see how they fly.Any one hunt with these? I here stories of the deer being to close for the speed of the bullet to fulley do its job with the 7mm.Any one have a problem with a interbond? I would like to shoot the same bullet for all that I hunt, if I can find a good one?

If the velocity is too great,a bullet can expand too quickly and not penetrate properly, but I certainly hope that you aren't believing that a bullet can go too fast to expand. The 139gr interbond,140gr accubond or 140gr ttsx are all fine choices for big game from deer to elk to moose.

I use nosler 160gr accubond in 7wsm and find they open up just fine and retain most of there weight. might be a little overkill the 140's would be good enough for deer I'am sure.

Don't worry about recoil they are the same.
I would say get the 300 becuase I am partial to .308 dia but get what you want if you want a 7mm get it $300 is a small price for what you want!!

Are you ok with recoil, because the 7mm is rated at 19 lbs. and the 300 is 24 lbs of recoil.

Well you have a good time, play by the rules and above all stay safe. Save goofy for after the meat's hanging. Have a good one...

so many times I have set my mind on something after doing the reasearch but ended up with something else due to availability and have been unhappy and went and bought the original choice afterwards.

although you can not go wrong with a 300 win mag

i like how the 7mm can toss 100gr all the way to 180gr and perhaps even a little bigger,, that will fit almost anything

but the 300 will kill big stuff better,, but it will not make up for poor aim

either way you will be happy as hell,,, they are both excellent guns

it also depends on your financial position,, if the couple hundred buck savings is important than it might be a good idea,,, and also if that is important I have seen a lot of good used guns for sale on this forum
