Default Crows nest pass or Cypress hills

I was thinking of taking the family on an outing this coming weekend to Crowsnest pass or Cypress hills. Being a displaced northern Alberta boy in Calgary and have never been to either place I was looking for suggestions from those who’ve been before.

Hands down the rock pile if you have never been there.

Cypress Hills Saskatchewan side if you should choose this area.

Crowsnest is very nice if the wind is not blowing....More to do as far as little shops, river fishing and great scenery. Lots of roads to travel if your not afraid of the hills, rough roads.
Cypress hills is very nice, warmer especially in the evenings, not as much wind and more lake fishing for the younger ones. Alberta side is more natural, Sask side is a lot more touristy, MILES and miles of easy driving roads and a good number of walk in fishing lakes as well as drive up to the shore type lakes.

If you want a fire I would check, the pass may be under a fire ban.

Cypress Hills, Sk is a great place to visit. If u have older kids there is zip line that is worth the money to check out. Pretty sure there is a fire ban on there right now as well. Last time we were there the fire bans were on but propane fire pits were allowed. Not the same as a real bonfire but at least it’s something. Just not the same going to bed in the camper not smelling like smoke from the bonfire.

The Pass has not been under a fire ban. It's been a sopping wet spring. The mountains are white with snow and it's been raining consistently on lower altitudes...…….and surprisingly it's also been a windless spring. Looking forward to some sunshine this coming week.

It depends. How old are your kids? What activities do you enjoy?

Don’t you dare come to the Pass! It sucks here!

The hills are covered with stupid hiking and mountain biking trails.... all along the trails you see these pesky wildflowers... they’re everywhere this time of year.

We’ve got 8 stupid trout lakes around here within 20k of each other that dumb people keep polluting with trout. Some idiots even put an aerator in one... now them stupid trout are big.
We got this annoying river that runs through the valley... then big trout seemed to have snuck in there.

Some idiots decided that an underground coal mine would be a cool to tour.... with like silly helmets and all.

They let anyone just randomly camp in the bush... wherever. Damn hikers and quadders with stupid smiles on their faces.

Try and go to a restraunt here an you get all confused with the choices.... Spanish tapas, Indian, Mexican, sushi Thai fusion, home cooking, steak joint, burger joint, pizza joint, blah blah blah.

Too much stupid wildlife getting in your field of view.

Stupid coffee shop bakeries everywhere.

Part of that dumb mountain cane down... not it’s all ‘ooohh let’s rock climb... parkour time... let’s have a picnic... let’s dive off big rock 25 feet into the river... blah blah.

Our mountains have these stupid caves in them.... idiots keep hiking out there and exploring them.

We have 7-10 really gross waterfalls in the area. People keep taking pics of them cause their so disgusting.

The kayak idiots and the mushroom pickers are in town now..... sheesh.

Totally sucks here man........ Stay away. Go east!

Ps..... our lake trout are too big, a guy could really hurt their back if they lifted one out of the water... they’re in the shallows now and have been known to take a child swimmer now and then..... you’ve been warned.0

The kids are 11.5 year old boy 2.5 year old girl and 6 month twin boys. My better half lives mountains sounds like we might have to endure all the awful things in the pass Bessie mentioned. The oldest boy and I absolutely hate seeing wildlife and being near fishing spots should be a terrible experience.

Cypress Hills.

Thinking of one other place for a weekend...Drumheller country. The dinosaur museum and badlands can be interesting.

Calaway park and Calgary zoo are family fun while you are in Calgary.

Careful where you river fish as the rivers are closed other than parts of the crowsnest, and as for Quadders that is just about nonexistent as pretty much every trail is closed. Maybe you could go to west castle ski hill and visit Shannon and thank her for all she has done for the province of alberta.

Not sure if you are camping or motels or day trip. Good campground called Lost Lemon Campground west end of Blairmore with full hookups. More rustic is Chinook Lake or we call it Allison dam west of Coleman or head up the Kananaskis, McGillivary Staging area or Atlas Staging area to find random camping. Lots of motels in the valley. good luck
