It was good to spend part of the day at our RMH Range yesterday, a chance to meet many of the long time shooters and kindle the spirits of good times...
A few shooters switched cartridges along with new builds that took place over the winter months,,, custom 300 & 338's on down to the flat shooting 6mm's to 6.5's,,, it sure got my mind thinking about change at that moment...
Of course that all changed once I got my plastic rubber metal rifle going. Lots of 100 meter stuff along with ranging from there on out to distance...
The club did alot of work at prepping the range and added a wheelchair adjustable bench,,, a few changes on a few of the gongs down range as well.
I used my ballistics numbers from this winter as it was easy to change up the ranging at different targets switching back and forth between them...
I like starting off the season easy,,, then I'll switch back to the free hand stuff later on,,, Ha. Its a full time job keeping those skills intact fore sure... Talk about a awesome day.
Looks like some farm work is underway,,, hopefully all of us get a chance to get things done at home and in the field of good times.
Thanks for the thread Chuck,,, dang that area your in looks awesome,,, I can't wait to get back to my play ground once more of the snow melts off.

What kind of gun is that? Does that say .280 Remington?

I get the chance to shake some rust out of my other 2 units in a few weeks...
Hopefully I can get down to the wall of clay banks,,, Ha.
There fun to shoot since no targets are needed,,, spot a Ridge sticking out,,, range it,,, and knock it down...
We have 3 kms of them on the one side,,, further down is another spot that offers a 7 km stretch of good times...
Our old friend in Southern BC started the clay bank shooting thing back in 1954,,, it slowly became the mountain range shooting thing,,, around 1980/81 we Sloooooowly got back to the banks...
Its alot easier spotting the hits on any of the endless features that protrud or jettison out-ward from the main Slopes... Like the old guy said,,, """pick an object from 400 on out to see if you can tumble it to the bottom. LOL
If we blow off a big enough chunk it's like watching a mountain sheep rolling down the hills. Ha.
The rainy days are the best time for this since the damp face breaks off leaving a better view of where the boolitz hit,,, much easier to spot the left over dry area from 7 to 1 km...
PS: Bring Smokey dogs, lawn chair, umbrella, water and lots of coffee...
Best relaxing shooting adventure with some Creek fishing too.
👍

It is a custom Model 70 built by Mark Penrod and rebarrelled by Jan Kolenbrander. It is a 280 Remington yes.

Exactly what I was thinking. All my rifles have the bolt handle on the other side of the scope. Must be a mirage or something - - - lol

Shooting off a pack is great when you can. Up here the grass is usually too tall for shooting off a pack.

Set your pack vertically and sit behind it.

That and the option of bypod or shooting sticks,,, my long time hunting partner got me into using them last year.

After reading the shooting out of the truck thread I thought this would be popular for gopher season

Here to. A tree limb works just fine for me.

Some of best hunts were finished off using pack as a rest

Took my deer this year across my pack, though it's important to have a pack shape that supports the rifle well. I've seen some bad examples too.
