New a good air rifle.
I’m looking for a good air rifle with a scope for shooting magpies around the acreage? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a great New Year!

Weihrauch hw30s .177 pal level. Does real world 630 fps with standard weight pellets. Perfect velocity for the duty without excessive over penetration, noise etc. It’s a legendary little rig for zero to 30 yrd pesting that will hide them all under a dime at 10m and last several generations. There is no better. Put a 4x32 on it and good to go. Dad has mine on his acreage and has loaned it out to other family that have acreages. Magpies, squirrels, sap suckers ringing the birch etc. Sold commonly in the USA under beeman brand as the r7.

Can’t go wrong with a Weihrauch. I have a .177 HW77 and .22 hw98 both shooting at 17fpe/approx (750fps on the .22/ 900fps .177). Both have 3-12x40 UTG scopes on them and are dead on accurate. You’re looking at $700+ for a decent spring piston air rifle.
If you want to spend more you can go to the PCP guns (pre charged pneumatic) they have an on-board air reservoir and are very high end guns , looking at $1200+ for one of those.
Or you can grab a Gamo etc from Cabela’s , just don’t expect consistent accuracy out of the Cabela’s guns as they are all Chinese made junk basically.

HW30s is nice but a tad light for magpies, at least mine was. Diana 34 is a good air rifle for the dollar. I just bought an R9, so looking forward to that, but my Diana hits hard enough for most anything. Don’t overlook an HW50s, maybe the perfect all rounder.
Elk is right, we need a budget, because the rifles we are suggesting are heading into upper end pest control units.

HW97 is great on the acreage with pest control. Worth every penny.

I went from a Dianna 34, to an HW97, both in .177, to a TX200 in .22, All will kill magpies or pigeons, but the .22 cal definitely kills better. The HW97, and the TX200 are more accurate, but they are more expensive.

And don't expect the rated velocities with lead pellets, actual velocities, are usually at least 200fps less that the rated velocities with composite pellets.

I have a Diana/ RWS. 22cal. 350 magnum classic stock. 4 x12 Hawke on it. Deadly accurate rig / chronos 14,3 gr. Crossman premier hp. at 830fps. all day. Goes clean through 1" thick pine at 20ft. --plenty powerful definitely not a toy -- and not cheap.

D&L Airgun
I’d talk with D&L. Really good to deal with and they’d have some great insight for you in regards to your budget. I purchased a HW100T from them and zero regrets.

x2. Was going to suggest a Slavia 634 (Slavia is the name CZ uses for their airguns) but it appears to be discontinued.
Have quite an 'arsenal' of airguns as we spend a lot of time in the winter months in our basement range.
Purchased all from D&L. They are very pleasant, very knowledgeable and I found that on most orders their prices were good enough that I could cover shipping and still be ahead of buying in Edmonton.

For $300 you are not going to get anything new in the “decent” end of the scale. You could try the classifieds on the Canadian Airgun Forum and see if you can pick up a decent used Weihrauch or Diana etc
$300 new will only get you a Cabela’s/Canadian Tire rifle that will have questionable accuracy for hitting magpies with a kill shot consistently.

I saw some Chi-Com pelletguns at Peavy Mart a few years back just before Christmas that were actually bored crooked! Not even in the center of the barrel.

In .22 they are great too bad they didn't take it up a notch and do them in .25 as well seeing the old UK Webley Patriot is history.BAM the Chinese copy[what don't they copy} is available in .25 but soft steel and lack of QC is legendary.

Benjamin 22 cal 1000fps about $400.00 with 3 to 9 power scope included will pretty much eradicate any vermin or pest around.
