Default YOUR THOUGHTS about a TC gun

hi, thinking about buying a different gun for hunting season this year, I have used the same gun for 9 years and just want something different, I noticed that on alot of the hunting shows, they are using the thompson center encore pro hunter rifle, its a single shot gun, 28" barrel, fancy stock that absorbs alot of the recoil. they advertise this gun alot, it is a new gun to the market, does anybody own one? what do you think about it....

good luck to all in the hunting season

SAFE HUNTING YA ALL

Dam commercials.I've never shot one but I did look at single shot TC . I didn't like the how hard it broke .You really had to hang on when you opened it up. I ended up getting the H&R for a lot less money, but for me it was just a yote gun. Then i ended up selling the single shot and getting a bolt. The TC are well made guns and I'm sure it's shoot fine . Just make sure if your in grizz country, hold steady cause you only got one shot ,then your lunch

if i was going to own a single shot it would be a ruger or rem rolling block or win high wall.if i wanted a switch barrel i would make one on a bolt action rifle.

I own one in the 7mm-08 and 338 Federal. The pros are:

the 28" barrel gives me on average 80-150 fps more than velocities published for 24" barrels. All my loads were chrono'd. My 7mm-08 is equivalent to a 280 remington and the 338 Federal is equivalent to a 338-06, big bonus for getting the most out of the least for recoil, powder, and performance.

stainless barrels

interchangeable barrels

good accuracy with the 7mm-08 3/8" groups were my best and 3/4" for the 338

the sims pad soaks up recoil really well (I don't think the flex tech does much, at least on the calibers that I am shooting)

you can easily measure 0.050" off the lands for bullet placement cause you have access to measure unlike a bolt gun where its trial and error without the proper tools

single shot has improved my accuracy

costs less to own another caliber

Cons are:

plastic finish

after 100 rounds either the forearm comes loose or the bolt that attaches the stock to the action

finish between the base and the barrel, there is a gap at the front end because the barrel tapers down

bring allen key and screwdriver during hunting season for tightening up the assembly

the metal block welded on the bottom of the barrel is not stainless and it rusted, more my fault than anything, but still a pi$$ off.

Those that I have shot are very accurate, and every one I talked to that ones one loves it.
I'm not a fan of the way they handle for me, but that is only a personal opinion.

As far as hard opening goes, most new break actions of quality are like that.
In the end, if you want only one gun, they are fine for the price of extra barrels.

Yes there is, that's what I chose over the TC Pro - my laminate stock, stainless steel Ruger is a bit heavier than a TC but the 26 inch barrel still keeps it shorter than most of my bolt guns and it will shoot 3/4 - 1 inch groups with factory 25.06 ammo.
A Highwall Hunter may be in future cards too - I've seen them in 7WSM, but not lately.

How about one in '06 with a 28" barrel?

Default I've got one

in .270 And love it. It looks cool and shoots pretty straight. Plus the interchangeable barrels make for an awesome investment. They are easy to remove. I was thinking of buying a steven's for a yote gun, but now I think I will spend an extra few bucks and get a .204 or .223 barrell.

i dont think it will be that bad cat,the neighbor brought over his 500ne in a fairly light double a few months ago .i was very surprised at the recoil very shootable! now on that same note i chambered a 458 win to lott in a cz two months ago and that is a different beast! much more recoil than i can take.

At one time I would welcome a chance to have a bash with it ( shot many big bores like the 458, 450 Ackley, etc) but there is a reason I shoot sub gauge shotguns and nothing bigger than a 308 these days!
crap, even a heavy load from my 20 is too much sometimes, that is why the 7X57R/12 gauge Brno is for sale, the 1885 in '06, and several other 12 gauge shotguns....

Default TC Encore 209x50

About 4 yrs ago my big bro picked himself up a blued Encore 209x50, As I held it, pointed it and then fired a few shots at the dump I had to get one.
I bought myself a stainless Encore with the .50 bp bbl. Awesome investment bar none
So far the barrels I've added are: .204, .270(pro-hunter 28" fluted) & .308 and I had a .300Win mag but my Bro liked it better. My next bbl. will be a .280 Rem. As mentioned b4, with the single shot concept my accuracy has increased along with my patience All my barrels wear either Nikon or Elite 3200 optics. I really enjoy this rifle and I get alot of enviuos looks at the range. I think you'll really be pleased with one.
Fills my freezer one shot at a time
