Contact the municipalities they will travel through.
The municipalities, counties, towns and cities manage the axle weight restrictions.

Generally speaking all highways in Alberta are restricted to 100% of legal axle weight - that is for the main roads (#1, 16, 2, 20......). As Dick said check with the counties you need to travel thru - lots of bans on all over. Again, generally speaking, you can not get a permit for overweight during this time ending end of May ish. Call the 800 number for specifics on planned route

$35 per 100 kg adds up pretty quick for overweight.

On my travels in the middle east, I'm seeing lots of 75% bans still, and the occasional 50%.

As said in Alberta the main roads are restricted to 100% axle weights right now, Saskatchewan has a Primary and Secondary route formula, you can check their website for the map and if you stay on the Primary roads you should be able to stay with 100% weights as well. Can't remember how Manitoba works in Spring time, main highways likely aren't banned less than 100%. Each province has info on their websites and permit office phone numbers to call. Just need more wheels in the spring time, how big/ what model is the excavator?

Not to derail. But have a question.
In terms of 100%.
Is that based on:
- manufacturers gvw
- registration gvw
- tire size and distance between axles.
My understanding is that registration gvw (on card and side of truck) has to be equal to or lower than manufacturer gvw (plate inside the truck)
But on Alberta Transportation website it has a calculator you can use to determine maximum gvw using tire size and distance between axles.

100 percent right now means no permit weight. Means, if you would or want to haul heavy loads, you will need wheels, etc.. jeeps and boosters. Starts usually mid March, until mid June.
Past ban, we usually a 2000 kg increase, and we can permit axles.
That runs usually from mid June , till mid July.
Summer weights, we rejoice somewhat, depending on your axle configuration, another 2000 kg increase.
It continues into then fall, and winter weights.
Gets better and better. Now bear in mind, these are provincial weight restrictions, but usually counties do follow with or shortly behind, as they kind of have to.
That's where one has to be always looking at routing, for getting say a rig into a county .They might tell you, how THEY want you comin in with heavies, which is fine.... any county I deal with monitor their roads daily and will give you a routing.
Hope this helps...
