Default Bought a 303 brit prior owner botched scope mount

Hey friends. I was wondering is ther a way to fill in the old scope holes that were tapped ?. I kno the steel on the 303 brits is hard stuff. The gun was in service during the war and has had its stock rebuild.
Long story short i was hoping to restore it for my son or should i scrap it ?.
Thanks guys,
Matt

The SMLE 303 is not a hard receiver , the pattern 14 (P-14) can be the issue with a hard reciever.

Restore it to the best of your ability, but see if it shoots/groups acceptable no sense pouring time and energy into a tire iron.

Depending on how good a job you are trying to do you can either use filler screws or have it welded and then smooth it out. Those are about the only two ways to do it well, other choice is to fill the holes with Devcon liquid steel.

Either that or leave them and use iron sights.

Thanks for all the help!!. Its very much appreciated.
I had a great email convo with fps hes a gunsmith i think most here know of and hes going to see what he can do to bring it back to life. Another member also mentioned that for the gun to be re stocked it must have been a strait shooter.
Again, Thank you A.O community
