New fly fishing shop opening soon in Edmonton
It's called Reid's Fly Shop at 168 st and 100 ave. Right now they are still stocking up with goodies but expect to open in early April.
Good news 'cause Cabela's fly fishing sections are going downhill (Norm is no longer at the south store), leaving only the Fishin' Hole.

Hope they do well. We need something like that here. Is that fairly close to the Boot Factory and Bubbles car wash?

Yes. According to my anchor man (another story), it's tucked into a little place right near there.

google says its 23 minutes from Cabela's NE to the new fly shop... I think that 23 minutes is worth it to support someone local and new, but hey, that's just me.

I think this gentleman is from WSS at one time. I had a great chat with him and i expect that his venture will be well done and well received by the FFC & SFC

I agree. I drive hours to get to where i can fish whats a few extra minutes to support a small guy here in town, even though i hate the traffic. But like you said thats just me.
We lost other small fly shops cause they couldnt make a go of it here. Heck ill even pay a little more to try help keep him open. I feel like we really need a specialized place for just fly fishing.
Not trying to sound better than anybody else. Just sayin is all.

In Calgary, there are several fly shops, all of which are more appropriately stocked, with prices matching or better than Cabela's/Bass Pro. I will always drive to a local shop before I visit a big-box store.

You can add me to that list! Yes, Reid worked at WSS North. Great guy! I am just starting tying flies and he was always there to answer any questions i had, even if they were dumb. I will support him.

Shops? Plural?
There hasn't been a fly shop in Edmonton since Denny's. Only one, in my memory. Tackle Time, The Fishing Center, WSS, were all general fishing stores with a fly fishing section stocked to varying degrees.
Anyways, I'm splitting deer hair there. Bottom line, I will support a local fly shop when I can.

Not sure if I ever dealt with Reid but I had the opportunity to talk with Clay a number of times at WSS and he was always patient, and helpful.
Looking forward to stopping in to spend a few bucks, stock up on tying supplies and support a local business.
Feel fortunate it's only a few minutes away from my home.

Yes Great guy! Because I'm female a lot of guys treat me like I don't know anything when it comes to fly tying/fishing...Reid treated me like an equal, always very helpful and informative. He'll have my support!

Yes it opened at 8 this morning. I went around 9 and there was lots of people there already. Nice shop, quite roomy for growth, good parking. As I figured Reid carries a lot of fly tying supplies that is not available to us from the other 2 sources. I was impressed with the shop at it's early stages, it will only get better

Went there after lunch at the Olive Garden. Challenging for me to find but won't be a problem again!
Some interesting new stuff I hadn't seen before so worth the trip.

Or you have your priorities in the right order, less spend for lunch allows more spent in the fly shop

I went Saturday at around noon. Great selection of stuff. Really nice to see Hends hooks and slotted beads for jig hooks. Knowledgeable and friendly staff from the old St. Albert trail WSS.
