Malkin Crosby and then throw in Kessel that a pretty good trio. Pitts did well in managing budget and putting together the best team hockey has seen in quite a while.

Unfortunately in a salary cap world the amount you pay them does matter, as you can't always surround them with the players they need to be successful.
if you look at Chicago, Taves/Kane they have won as many Stanley Cups as Crosby.
I believe a well paid Duo can outperform a generational talent in a Salary Cap league as you can pay better supporting players to assist.
and at 21 million for Edmonton's top two players it is going to be tough to give them the supporting cast they need. Again look at Chicago Taves/Kane new contracts kicked in and they are on the outside looking in.

I hear you loud and clear and I don't disagree but the question was who would take who and imo, and it looks like 2/3 of the rest, it's McDavid hands down. He and Draisaitl are a nice one two punch and hopefully Oilers management can turn them into Crosby-Malkin with a decent supporting cast. Have to draft and ripen as well as trade well tho. something the Oilers haven't proven they can do to this point,
It's Toews btw, and he's still the man.

Flames fan here, I'd take the duo because there's two, Monahan quietly better than he gets credit for, wins puck battles, is a center, etc. McDavid hurt or even on a cold stretch, bad news.
Gaudreau vs McDavid, Johnny can't carry Connor's jock strap, I've watched him live quite a bit. Floater, loses puck battles badly, whiner, always looking at the ref..........Smith called out his superstars yesterday, with reason, IMO.

They weren't as good in 2013 with all the salary cap purges and I will forever want to slap Bowman for giving away two seconds for a useless Kimmo Timonen. He contributed nothing other than a depeleted talent pool on the farm.
2010 they were one of the best NHL teams ever to play the game. 2013 the comeback against the Dead Things was pure magic. 2015....ya ok.

Faster/more skill then the ice has to over right now, gotta find someone for him to play with but hard to at that talent level.
