Ice Rod Question!
Does anyone know a brand or manufacturer for ice rods that are 18-27 inches meant for baitcast reels in the ultra light/Light/Light-Medium categories?
Thanks!

Haat ice rods are nice. Don’t know if they are that short though.

I would say that most ice rods can take a level wind or bait caster type reel. At the end of the day you are not "casting" it anyways so if the guides don't line up perfectly it just makes no difference whatsoever.
The key thing is the reel seat, the drag from the reel, and, of course, what it feels like in your hand if you are jigging for hours.Other than that - it holds your line for you - that's it.
I have Fenwicks, Frabill and St.Croix ice rods and am happy with all of them.
I have all sort of different reels, but I keep gravitating back to the Frabill centerpin .... simple, easy on the hands and decent drag that won't ice up.

The casting rods are 45". I have the medium heavy and it is at home on 20lbs+ lakers and pike, for an ice rod it is almost insane. There is an extra heavy that must be truly insane. The medium light would probably be better choice for normal people.

It has nothing to do with casting a lure or the eyes lining up. It has to do with the spine of the rod and the way it flexes.
As for a small light/ultra light bait casting rod it may he hard to find. Most bait casting rods are meant for bigger fish when it comes to ice fishing.
You may have to look into a custom made rod.

Look for a rod with a long handle. I find that my fenwicks feel good in my hand with a spinning reel, but when I put my baitcaster on the handle becomes too short and feels awkward.

spine means little or nothing on and ice rod especially on a short 27inch or smaller rod.tbe action means more then spine or the reel.
