I at one time i owned several,243,223 and 17hmr. For the center fires if you do not drive them hard as in hot loads and you find a weight that works in them they are fun and easy to carry.

No experience with the one you mentioned.

Just curious ? When did H&R graduate above the " junk " designation,,,, ?

I viewed them as a gateway ,it's sad but you do have to start somewhere.

My only regret as in all sales was not keeping one.

I have a bull barrel h&r in 22-250. I used it as my coyote gun for years. It's easily a moa rifle and I personally have shot yotes out past 500yds with it. My only complaint about the rifle is it has an extractor instead of ejector. In cold weather plucking the case out of the chamber is tough with gloves. While definitely a cheap rifle it is in no way junk. A single shot break action isn't for everyone but where it counts my h&r will shoot as good or better than many bolt guns out there. In Fit and finish it's not going to win any awards but it sure shoots

I bought one new several years ago, wood stock, heavy barrel, .223 and still have it.
It is accurate with commercial FMJ and handloads (did not have to try hard to get a decent load with basic FMJ bullets).
I would not hesitate to buy another one.
Cheers

Had the exact gun years ago. After some trigger work and load development it shot 40gr Vmaxs into a ragged hole. Then a year later accuracy went south. Ragged hole to 1-1/2 groups. Not a hot load either. I'm pretty expecting of my coyote guns so I sold it. Had a .223 in the varmint version that I kinda wished I never sold but was interested in another varmint rifle so it went to a good home.

Had a ultra hunter in 25-06. It was accurate enough I figured. I had problems with firing pins. It seemed to all happen after my son went to the neighbors to do some reloading for it with the neighbors neck sizing die. Don't know why this would affect it. Once it was locked up it seemed loose as well.
