Fill the case to the very top with IMR 4350 (no need for those silly scales here), squish any bullet of your choosing as far down as you dare (please make sure your kids arnt home) and smile when you pull the trigger......
Just kidding!!

Haha sounds like what I used to do with H1000 and a 300winmag.

I bought a 270 wsm last year and to date it's taken 2 elk. I wouldn't be opposed to the 280ai I just happened across a great deal on a model 70 in 270wsm first. Whatever you decide let us know.

Screwed this hole thread up and found a used Kimber MA in 270 Winchester. It's what I wanted anyway. Sorry boys. Thanks for the input.

What about hunting range trajectory. You could easily say the 7mm bullets too heavy for the 10 twist of the 270 have poorer ballistics. For the same weight there is no difference. It often comes up that 7mm bullets have better ballistics than 270 bullets its nonsense. The twist of the 270 is optimised for a slightly different range of s.d. and superior ballistics in its application if you want to argue that but i dont, look at all the nonsense it leads to

Good choice. The other two don't give you much more in most hunting situations.
I remember when we finished up my son's left hand 700 in 280AI. He went to the range with a friend to whom I had just sold a stainless/walnut Featherweight FN Model 70 in 270 Win. Son remarked that he should have just bought a 270 as there wasn't much difference. IIRC the 24" 280AI went about 3150 with a 140 and the 22" 270 went 3100 with a 130......he didn't figure that 10 grains of bullet weight and 50 fps would make a big difference. It won't.

There isn't much difference under 500 yards. The only reason I was looking at the other 2 cartridges was the deal I could get on them. A 130 ttsx or 150 partition is all I need out of the standard 270. Whichever one it shoots I'll be happy.

Well, glad you got what you wanted! We'll have to wait for the next 'which caliber' thread to discuss how many angels can dance on the head of a pin...
FWIW, if I had it to do over, I'd probably buy a 270 instead of my 7mm rem mag. Petzal has a couple articles on how good the 270 is. Very similar performance until you get > 160g bullets in the 7mm, and those are most useful on very large game for which a larger caliber may be a better choice. In any case, great cartridge - enjoy! Pics?

Yep. We convinced him AI and WSM didn't have enough advantages over good old 30-06 length cases .
What are friends for?

150 LR Accubonds. Doesn't get a bunch better. I used to shoot 130's for just about everything then flipped to 140 accub's which were very nice. Now it's the 150 LR Accubonds. 625 BC and loaded to a bit over 2900 fps. Does the job on any ungulate in this province.

I think if you went back in the thread I said all I really needed was a 270 but the deal I could get was on the WSM and AI. Magically a 270 appeared in a used forum and here we are. Lol
