Cac
Jimbows is a very good shop and has a 20 yard range.
I prefer to shoot at the Calgary archery center. The range goes to 40 yards and there is always a 16 target 3D course set up as well.

Jimbows is AWESOME,service is top notch
Very unimpressed of CAC where they barely notice you
the best is how people all want longer ranges to shoot at but yet can't even hit paper at 20 . You should be practising longer ranges outdoor in the elements if you plan on hunting anyways

Definitely "the best"!
He never said he was only looking for indoor ranges and who knows, maybe he does practice in the elements but wants somewhere closer to home where he can fling arrows more often just to stay sharp.
Seems like you are assuming an awful lot about this guy based on a 1 sentence question.
As to the OP, Jimbows has a range/ shop here in edmonton and the guys there are top notch and I have heard nothing but rave reviews for their Calgary location as well.
If your just looking for a range, CAC sounds pretty decent from what I've heard.
Good luck!

crossbow
Any of these places allow you to practice with a crossbow?
Im not sure if I read somewhere that they dont, just making sure.
I know there is a archery range by fallen timber.
Anybody know anything about it?

If I want service and to shoot I go to JimBows. If I don't care about shooting 40 yards, I go to JimBows. If I want to be ignored and treated like I don't belong but want to shoot 40 yards, I go to the CAC. Sometimes having the option of 40 is nice.

I have heard this from a few people which is too bad since it is a pretty nice and big shop. I must have gotten lucky, my first bow i bought there was when Craig was still around and i was introduced to him through a couple guys that shot there regularly. Have been treated pretty well ever since.

It was pretty funny the last time we were there, which has been quite a while based on our schedule. My son bought himself a Bowtech Fuel. He was 10 when he bought it but wanted a better bow than his Bear Apprentice. He bought it at JimBows and htey normally give you a BowTech hat when you buy the bow. This is standard practice to have the hat included in the box but JimBow's puts their logo on the sides. So we went to shoot at the CAC and my son was wearing this hat. He got nothing but foul looks when we walked in from one staff member in particular. To the point where we actually confronted the staff member. We did it quietly as not to cause a scene and decide where to take it from there. Overall he didn't really have an answer, he just ignored us, but stayed away from us for the rest of our visit.
Overall, I don't think it's a horrible place. They do have a couple of people that are really good. But they have more that have no place dealing with the general public. I have had other issues there as well but nothing that have been major, just annoying. Of course, these are MY experiences and MY opinions. You might get something completely different. A lot of target and traditional guys love them.

Scott,
I hear Ya! Which is too bad the staff at a shop like that should treat kids like gold. Seriously how much potential money might a 10 year old kids spend over his lifetime if he becomes a regular shopper to a place like that!!
Jimbo's has it figured out for sure, a couple years ago I took my boys to the Strathmore 3d shoot. Jim and I think Joe were there, gave away a bow to the kids had hats... Made the kids day! I always stop there she. I. Shopping for something new and have always been treated well.
Btw I have been following your adventures with your son on here, I l be your posts reminds me of when my boys were a little younger and no so into their sports, which take up a huge amount of our time now. Cherish those outdoor adventures with him, you're doing a great job!!

Thank you. Next year will be his time to pull the trigger himself. He's really been enjoying coming for the ducks this year.

Jimbows is great..friendly knowledgable staff and a nice 20 yard range. CAC is great as well, with 30 and 40 yard targets. I don't get people that have to badmouth one or the other. We only have 2 in Calgary....we need them both!

In addition, both have different (not necessarily exclusive) brands, so we have more opportunity to compare products.

Jim Bows for bow service and shooting to 20 yards.
Calgary Archery Centre for shooting 20-40 yards with 3D option.
Anyone know if the Calgary archery club will be opening again soon? They had such a great facility.
