Buck with huge tumor advice plz
Hey all,
I got a buck this evening, but on recovery noticed several tumors on him (underside, side and top of shoulder)....the one on the top of the shoulder is about the size of a baseball and totally through the hide with a 'fleshlike' appearance. My wife is disgusted by it and now what do i do? Sorry if this bothers anyone, but we enjoy our hunting and enjoy our meat.....and now we feel as though we can't eat it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks all.

A person really needs to see pictures to have any ability to offer a diagnosis and advice.
As a shot in the dark, these "tumours" are likely warts. These warts are harmless to people, the meat is absolutely fine to eat. Most deer have the virus, some show symptoms.

I would love to post pics, but never able to on here....we looked up warts and they seem to be black in color whereas these are flesh colored and the larger one is the size of a baseball and perfectly round...maybe I'll call fish and wildlife this morning. .thnx for the input. Just hard to be sure and kinda scares a guy of the potential.

Take Ed's advice
There are so many very good reasons to do what Ed suggests and what he recommends to you.
I don't think I need to say anything else.

As already been suggested, but if it makes you feel any better cattle get cysts as well.
The consumer in the supermarket never sees them.
Ask to speak with the Large Ungulate Biologist and see what they say if you get nowhere with the C/O.

Thnx everyone,
Don't get on here much anymore, but always know where to turn for advice. So I was very nervous about it....so having meat shop look at and confirm and one of the head biologists is checking as well. Thanks again.

Sounds great..I pmd for your cell number.
Sooooo fish and wildlife consulted with their biologist and the biologist is certain that these are normal and provided a link that I'll share for reassurance. I normally skin and debone but left it intact and took to local meatshop. ...they too said the animal looked really healthy and skinned animal to find no evidence of growth on the meat. Such a turnoff and tough to accept it's 'normal'.....especially when apetite is so sychological lol. Thanks again everyone. I'll try to copy and paste link.

Another sore
This sore would be the one that made me fall F&W
Glad to hear it's still a healthy deer despite the sores.
Once cut away and processed That Young buck will be good eating.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to have something to refer to in case I'm ever in the same situation. Won't be such a shock.
