Default Prairie Falcon?

Found this guy with a chickadee still clamped in one claw. Figured that he flew into a window in a trailer after grabbing the chickadee. Would like to confirm that it's a Prairie Falcon.

Looks like a Sharp-Shinned Hawk with a Slate-colored Junco in his talons.

I agree. I call them Slate-colored Junco's too but the "new" name is really
Dark-eyed Junco. Hard to break old habits.

The size is about right for a sharp shinned hawk, and it doesn't have the dark band along the edge of the tail like a kestrel.

Not a prairie falcon.

Agree on sharp shinned.

Nice find (sad though).

Nope, its a Sharp shinned hawk. Slightly smaller than a male Coopers hawk. This is an unusual find as the prey is fully intact. Additionally, a prarie falcon would be quite a bit larger than this bird.

You tube has a ton of videos of the British and European version of this small accipiter. However, they are called 'sparrowhawks' in Europe. In North America, a sparrow hawk usually means a kestrel which is a true falcon. 2 different species entirely.

Wow... get a permit and get it to a taxidermist. Hope you put it in a freezer.

Thanks for the ID of the hawk. I offered it to a taxidermist who I know. If he doesn't want it I'll offer it on the forum. Pm if you are interested
