Default May long weekend!?

Really looking forward to the May long weekend and some open water. Been dreaming about it every day. I am thinking with this El Niņo weather we've had all winter that it should be early ice out on most northern lakes. I just booked in to winefred lake, gonna stay a tthe lodge for a few days. Was hesitant the last couple of years to book anywhere up north because the ice wasn't always off. I'm really hoping things will be wide open a couple of weeks early this year, what does everyone else think? What are some other peoples may long plans?

May long weekend coincides with the full moon this year, the rowdies will be getting extra rowdy.

Default Meathead weekend

I avoid getting out to where the public goes all together especially during this gathering of clowns...more to follow.

Less clowns around in the local lakes with the zero limit on alcohol in your stall.

Hard to enforce when there are only two cops for a entire area to cover...just everyone be responsible and safe.

I have been pleasantly surprised how tame several of the family campsites have been since this law was enforced. Granted, it doesn't stop everyone from drinking - but it does tone down the alcohol fueled antics.

Have to agree with you, please be responsible and safe, and if you're random camping - clean up after yourselves. The messes that are left every year after May long are unnecessary, just be a decent human being and pack your garbage out.

Normally we have a get together every year (for the last 14 years) to remember a buddy of ours that passed. This year we will push it to the following weekend dues to some friends having to work. Not sure what our plans are but I'm sure they involve a holiday trailer and some fishing or quadding or a river. Hopefully somewhere where nobody else is.

Being more elderly now- getting out during the week is always more favorable. I don't mind company while fishing/ camping but smaller groups of the rowdy weekenders are nice to avoid. Very impatient now that our spring has been so mild. The fire bans are a reality also with the lack of moisture.

Yes I agree .... I think fire bans are almost a given .We do lots of crown land camping and the messes that we find are unbelievable. Our group always make a point to leave our spots cleaner than how we found them . I would like to spread garbage in those peoples back yard and see how much they enjoy cleaning up after other people

In my younger years I would also clean up remote spots. Camping/ fishing where it is not right near the vehicle was more productive. I wish to hear only nature and the pine fire crackle.......

I agree with you. Lakes that should normally have 30"+ ice this time of year only have 14" to 20" approx. El Niņo was strong this time but we've had similar before. Looking back at those years we had early spawns and ice offs. Good luck up there hope you do well, I will be out fishing off Vancouver Island hopefully for Hali's weather and tides permitting then anxious to get home and get fishing around end of the month.

Open water whites. Yesssssssssssssssssssss!

Ice should be off early on all lakes for this May long. At least the ones that have my interest.

Cheers!
