Default Adding a 900 watt element to a Bradley digital smoker

Has anybody added a larger or second element to a Bradley digital smoker?

I went on the Bradley forum lots of mods and conflicting opinions some have added a second element, some have added a 900 watt element eliminating the original. Looks like an easy mod HOWEVER the conflicting part is whether you need an additional temperature controller or not.
The controversy is the original controller is only rated for 10 amps
900 watts / 120 volts is 7.5 amps + 1 amp for the puck burner = 8.5 amps
This is beyond the 20% margin of error by .5 amps
Some say "MEH" I've been running 900 watts or two 500 watts with the Bradleyl wiring for years, others say don't do it you'll burn your house down and the neighbors as too.

It would be easy to just adding a larger element the 500 watt original is designed for the USA winters not Canadian. The Aubury PID controller is $275 a big extra expense.

Has anybody done this mod ? Next subject will be adding a convection fan

If you have a digital you don't need the controller, if you have an original, you do, my digital has the dual burner element and the fan. I also have a new pid controller that I never needed because mine was a digital, give me a call if you need some help or just to talk it through 403 660 1709
