So it's OK to cross check a ref from behind but not OK to punch a coach.

I disagree completely. I've played my whole life. Still do. You can't allow something like this to go unpunished for the simple fact that the officials deserve respect and protection too.

Yes they do, but in this case it was not a deliberate hit, it was a reaction......

Oh I don't think he was in any way looking to cross check the linesman. But he isn't innocent either, linesman still got cross checked. I blame the coaching staff for not pulling him out of the game for a concussion. Cost him a half million by leaving him in there. Takes away his only defence.
Linesman hasn't worked a game since.

Yeah poor Wideman, what about the ref who is still on the shelf with a concussion.
Typical; people feeling sorry for the bad guy and not the victim. The same in criminal court.
I agree, 20 games is good.
