Late Season Longtailz
Taking advantage of a south wind warm-up in Southern SK makes for a great way to wear off a little Christmas 'excess'.
The birds are at their most cunning at this point of the season making each and every one a challenge and a trophy in my books.
Hoping every 'dog' had his day this past season and hoping for the best for everyone in the New Year!

Is that a 20G FEG I see (or 16?)? I've got one, too, and it's my favourite go-to shottie!
You need some Hungarian dogs to go with that Hungarian gun!
Thanks for posting your photos!

Henry and the Bling gun
Henry and his pointed MT. pheasant. Lots of walking in early Dec. with a lot of running birds in no snow made for poor cooking. The walks were great however and some of the bird work was fun.........

I am unable to ever trial again due to physical limitations. He is aged out and not broke yet to FT standards.

Great pictures, my breeder tells me that the litter that I have been waiting on for over a year is due in about two weeks, and then in March , I will be headed to Manitoba to pick up my pup. I hope to have pictures to post after the next upland season.

Kiva vs Goose
Not upland, but this was Kiva's first live goose midway through her second season.

Introducing Tag
We have lots of plans to get this little guy going this year.
Berg Brothers Setter
We named him Tag. I drove 7300 KMs to pick him and get him home.

A Drahthaar is basically a GWP whose parents were bred and tested under the German system. They have to meet the German requirements, which are more stringent than the CKC/AKC.

The CKC/AKC both have a rudimentary hunt test(instituted about 20 years ago) as such and can't really be compared to the VDD tests as you said they are much more stringent. But correctly the VDD also encompass more tests for different attributes for a general hunting dog that would be suitable and considered for breeding purposes. NAVHDA does much the same thing and is a fairer comparison.
The GWP and the Drahtharr though both look alike and are from common breeding stock are quite different in many ways. The Drahtharr has been breed along traditional European standards for a traditional alaround hunting dog. However the CKC/AKC took the original German/Dutch dogs and reg. them as GWP's as they didn't know were to put them in their reg. The only sporting competition for the GWP at that time was pointing dog field trials and hence the breeding of those GWP focused more on those desires hence run and pointing abilities. So if you look closely they have similarities and differences....didn't want to steal the post but wanted to point out their are differences which exist between these dogs.......

Why so angry Springerman?
Congrats on the pups Dog River and EII, hope to see lots of pics of them in this thread.
It is a very sad day in our household, as it turns out Kiva has minor hip displaysia, and she won't be having a litter this spring.... or ever. She is in to be spayed on Thursday. 🙁

Sorry Pudlepointer, I wasn't angry at all I must have inadvertentley
touched that symbol in error !!!
Quite the contrary, I really enjoyed your video, I thot it was great , it reminded me of an incident with my first dog, a female
LAB, she was chasing a wounded Mallard on the Bow River, it dove just when she got to it and to my surprise she dove after it and came up it.So I was sincere in my praise of your dog. Cheers Springerman

I pretty much figured that is what happened..... but then I thought maybe you had a "soft spot" for geese....
I was pretty proud of her for tackling that big bugger.

Butch is seven months old this week and 62lbs. This morning he locked up solid during our morning walk, so I pulled out my phone and took a picture. I then took two more steps towards him, and a Hungarian partridge flushed 12-15 feet in front of him.
