308 would be the Corolla, 30-06 would be a loaded up Camry with the V6

300 win mag for all around with a well constructed 165 or 180 grain. Anything under 30 cal is good for ladies and smaller game. Any big bear guides suggest a 300 mag as a minimum

This is an easy choice. I'd have to go with 7 mm rem mag with 168 grs of Berger goodness. The .280 rem would be a close second.

As a friend of mine says. Cartridges are more alike than different.

Yes, 7mm RM, one cal, but many loads.
I have tried from 130 gr Speer up to 168 VLD.
Ok, 175 gr Win factory loads too I guess.

If I was hunting mostly moose and elk with the occasional deer, I would opt for a 300 win. mag with 180 gr. bullets. If were hunting mostly deer with the occasional moose and elk, a 280 rem. with 140 gr. bullets.

The best one is the one that you can shoot most accurately.
I use a.270 and 300 Weatherby. If I had to choose only one it would probably be the 300.

I use my 264Winmag for everything from Elk to Coyotes, I love the round, faster then a 7mm and less recoil. If I had to choose something else it would be a 280AI/7mmRM.

I picked my wildcat I'm shooting, 6.5mm Sherman Shortmag, to be the 'cartridge to rule them all' in a short action. Based on the SAUM case. (Think shorter WSM case) I'm pushing 160 gr bullets over 3000 fps. It's not lightning fast, but very respectable in a true short action cartridge that fits in magazines with bullets seated out the the lands. Love shooting it.

I have bought and sold a few rifles and keep coming back to the .300 Ultra Mag. Can load her down if I feel the need; but generally a 200 grain Accubond is a great choice for any situation. Some say overkill but I have always said, "There is only one stage of dead." In the end I'm gonna throw another vote in for the "Whatever calibre you can deliver the payload where it needs to be everytime." Some shooters can grab anything and shoot it well. Then you have the guys at the range shooting a 30-06 with a pair of coveralls folded up between their shoulder and the recoild pad.

I thought about doing that wildcat... But after looking into it, I'd sooner build a 6.5 wsm if I was to build something like that... But I like the idea of the 26 nosler better...

I've shot and loaded for both and much prefer the 6.5 SAUM but that's just me.

6.5wsm is not a lot slower than a 26 nosler and takes about 15 grains less powder.

I don't know. But I settled on .30-06 and got a .375 H&H in case I'm wrong.
