Default LAST STRAW....Removal of Canadian Flag Pin

I never do this but I find that this nonsense in our country has to stop.

Christmas is now a holiday season, no Lord's prayer in schools and more.... It won't be long and they will eliminate the anthem; they are already wanting to change the wording.

Poll workers ordered to remove Maple Leaf pins

A deputy returning officer and a poll clerk working at an advance poll in Thornhill last weekend say they were told to remove their Maple Leaf pins or they would lose their jobs.

Mike Zichowski and Augustin Marcu both tell the Toronto Sun that a supervisor at the St. Anthony School polling station spotted them with the tiny lapel pins last Sunday. He told them the flags could be construed as symbols of the Liberal party and must be removed.

“It’s shameful,” Zichowski said. “The flag doesn’t belong to any one party.”

Marcu said a voter gave them the pins. The woman belongs to a group that’s been lobbying the government to make Flag Day, the day which honours the creation of the Canadian flag in February, a national holiday.

“Before she left, she pulled a little bag from her purse and gave us Canada flag pins,” Marcu said. “Without even thinking, we put them on our lapels.”

The pair wore the postage stamp-sized pins for about an hour before they were told to remove them.

“This is the flag for crying out loud,” Marcu said. “We were really shocked.”

Zichowski said they’ve already drafted a letter to complain to Elections Canada and plan to file it after Monday’s vote.

“We didn’t say anything at the time,” he said. “But it really hurt and it has really bothered me since.”

Elections Canada spokesman Dugald Maudsley said there are no rules against workers wearing a Maple Leaf pin at the polls.

“There are prohibitions on things like wearing the Liberal colours or any party’s colours or a slogan that supports one party or another,” he said.

Maudsley said he couldn’t comment on the specific case because it could become an issue the agency’s human resources department investigates.

“It will be taken very seriously,” he said. “It will be examined. That person will receive a response. ... We can’t comment any further on that case.”

Well if it was a Canadian flag pin then someone should have grabbed the communist supervisor by the wind pipe and give it a squeeze for all of Canada.

Just another incident where some sniveling bureaucrat on a power trip exceeds their authority. See it all the time. Hope he's the one to get fired.
I'd like to know what OP means when he say's "Last Straw"? Believe me, there will be plenty more last straws to look foreward to. Does OP plan to not vote because of this?

Maybe Elections Canada should tell the political parties that non of them are allowed to use a maple leaf as part of their logo.

So you can vote with a bag on your head, but not a Maple leaf pin on your lapel.

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG????

I'll be wearing my tshirt tomorrow when I vote. "Yes Dear " tells me she is wearing hers as well. Like all silly old seniors we'll be dressed the same. LOL.

She said if anyone gives her grief, it will be on the 6 o'clock news.

This is good to hear. Hopefully they do follow up.

I'm no liberal supporter, and i would never, in a million years, confuse a CANADIAN FLAG with support for the liberals.

Sounds like the one responsible for this mandate isn't very Canadian.

X2

Liberal colours are red and white like our flag.

But to insinuate that our national flag is a symbol and favouritism of the stupid Liberal party is asinine.

Some one tells me to remove pin from my lapel gets it stuck between his eyes.

From the article in post #1:
"Elections Canada spokesman Dugald Maudsley said there are no rules against workers wearing a Maple Leaf pin at the polls."

So other than an over-zealous polling station supervisor making a wrong call, there really isn't much a story here ... and definitely nothing to get our knickers in a knot about.

I wouldn't have removed the pin and would have challenged the supervisor, and recorded the conversation as well.

I had not realized I'd been supporting the Green Party at every vote all these years, guess I'll have to go get me some grey sweats for tomorrow.

They have to remain neutral.

I could just see a member of the public making a compliant they mistook the pins for the liberal logo and having this story turn the other way.

Case of damned either way I say.
