Default Wilderness Camping Near Fort Macleod

We generally camp in the wilderness, we have done Kanaskis, and down at Lake Koocanusa. Now we are looking for a place near Fort Macleod, and Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. We generally go off road and never have yet stayed at a RV site or city campground, so we are trying to find a spot but there isn't very much information out there. Maybe Mud Lake? Is that place ok for overnight tent camping? Where else would anyone suggest for that general vicinity. TIA for any tips. Crown land is basically what we are looking for, I suppose because that' what we camp on.

There is nothing at mud lake but mud. You could camp in the forestry at the end of the Springpoint road . pretty busy with dirt bikers and bowhunters this time of year tho.

Beaver Creek area, west of Buffalo Jump is a large area with semi formal and true wilderness camping. Can be busy on the weekends. It is about 15 minutes west of the jump.

There is a Provincial site at the Old Man River Bridge on Hwy 2 just north of the Hwy 3 intersection. About two minutes to Ft. Macleod and 7 minutes to the jump. Sites aren't on top of each other and the river is right there. But it is right by the highway.

Nothing at Mud Lake.

There is also formal camping at the Old Man River Dam on Hwy 785 just off Hwy 3. About 15 minutes from the jump as well.

This area is kinda our back yard.
