Ok but I thought that was between all consenting parties?

Next time I have a flyer I'm going to blame it on gas. I'll blame the smile on that as well.

I have continued with load development with the rifle.
I picked up some 165gr. Sierra boat tails, and a collet sizing die.
The results speak to just a few things being left to tinker with.

I've seated the bullets another 10 thou deeper, and have settled on 58.6gr.
Next up is chrono graphing, and taking the rig to distance.

I'll post up another range report shortly.

Dick

It is coming along very nicely. The previous picture of groups on the second page of this thread looks tighter and rounder than this one, and the 150 and 180 grain bullets shot real nice. What convinced you the shorter COAL and 165 works better, is that what it needs to be to fit the magazine?

Mag length to start was ok. I followed Sierra's recommendation to seat 7 thou off the leade.
After going back over, my data, I realized I didn't even have half a caliber of bearing surface in the neck of the cases. That's why I seated a bit deeper.
I can also say that the first groups were shot on one of those days, where everything just felt right(above average) the Sierra's were shot on a far more on par sort of day, with more stuff running around in my mind, and for sure I was more apt to be anticipating the recoil.
Call it intuitiveness, or hard knocks learnings. Why I chose to do what I do sometimes during load development, is driven through lots of trigger time, and knowing yourself, etc.

Some days your the hammer, some days your the nail!

Chronographed the load at an average of 2790fps(15feet)
With an extreme spread of 11 fps over 5 shots.

Range was very busy, and the trail to 385yds., was pure snot, so I elected to just ring steel at that distance.

2" high at 100, and at 10x I used the 400 yd hash mark on the Z600plex reticle held at 2/3 low, to go 4 for 4 on the 8" square gong.

Sounds as though you have a keeper Richard. Surely the MV looks to be well within expectations. It'll put steaks on the BBQ.

True enough Yvan.
I've got flashier rifles, and I've got rifles that crush this one for trajectory, and velocity. I've even got a "few" that shoot better groups than this one.

But for a production rifle, in a chambering that is almost 110 yrs old, it certainly has that je ne sais quoi, about it.

There is a lot to be said for 110 year old chamberings Richard. It seens as though way back then, calibers were developed out of pure necessity. There wasn't a race to market a better mouse trap. Look at the old timers, the 06, 300 and 375 H&H, 30-30, 303 brit, 6.5 Swede, 7×57 to name a few. They're still trying to better them with only marginal improvements at best.

Of course as addicted reloaders and shooters, we must experience the adventure if going into new unchartered territory. Namely the WSM's, the RUM's the Creedmor. But what the heck? how much fun would we have if we didn't?

I think you've found that certain something, about this rifle.
It's simple, tried and true, easy on the eyes, and it does what it's supposed to do with un abashed simplicity and efficiency.
