Lotsa good points/info here already.
Here are some things that come to mind;
Take a stripping basket! Often the waves will come up and across/sideways on the the beach, wrapping line around your ankles among other things in the process. Also too, frequently you'll be sprinting after fish to get another cast at them or to get to where their busting bait on the surface, and having your line off the sand is super handy. many other reasons to have one. I hated mine at first, after getting used to it, LOVE it now.
Finger protection mentioned, I think, and is very important. Electrical tape works well for me, stays adhered well in the wet salty conditions, and is durable protection on the cheap.
Flies; sardine and ballyhoo. Last year on the east cape we didn't see any sardines for four months but the ballyhoo were there, wasn't until the fifth month the sardines started to show--unusual--the ballyhoo flies saved us.
Learn/become comfortable with the FAST two handed strip retrieve, Pelagic fish are built for speed and their prey are almost as fast

Double haul is/needs to become your friend.
