Default Snare Making

Now that all of my snares are pulled it's time to start making new ones. Does anyone have a trick to take the cable off of the spool without it becoming a tangled mess? Thanks.

Default snare making

I just hang it up between 2 rafters in the garage with a piece of pipe. It spools off nicely that way.

I was thinking of running the end through a piece of neoprene or rubber so that there is a little tension on it and it can't get pulled back towards the spool.
But I have not tried it yet.

I've got an 8 foot table I use. I like to put the spool on a piece of pipe between 2 jack stands on one end so the cable comes off the bottom of the spool. Next to that I put my swager, pull cable out to length and cut. There are marks on the table for the length. If you can get someone to help it goes very fast. When I have help I cut lots of cable and roll it up in dozens. That way I just grab a dozen bundle and build snares.

Used to use aircraft cable a lot for hanging signs from rafters at Superstores. I always wrapped a few rubber bands around the spool which would still allow you to pull off cable but kept it from unspooling itself.
