Castle River
Hey guys, I fish the Castle area often but never stray overly far from where I park. Was hoping to fish from one spot to another one upstream and was curious how long I should expect it to take. If you regularly fish the area please PM me.

If fishing upstream, be careful not to wander into the Ecological Reserve.

Just downstream from Castle Mountain. There should be a sign on the main road, and a cattle guard.

It's upstream of the Syncline Group Camp.

Has anyone fished from where the road crosses the West Castle upstream to where the trailhead to Southfork Lakes / Barnaby Ridge is? Just curious how long that would take..

Right! Just before the ski hill. I have fished there a long time ago. I believe that is where the Alta Cutthroat record was caught. It is very difficult walking through there as it is a huge bog with skinny water that is very deep. In parts 2 feet wide and 15 deep! I never heard it referred to as a reserve before.

It is an ecological reserve - no fishing, no hunting.

Love that river system! Have you guys ever gone up to catch a golden, or just stay in the river? In my pics (in my signature) you'll see a fat cutty/cutbow, which came from the west castle. Also my golden is from the lakes

You have some great fish in here. Just a heads up, I noticed you had a couple species in there that you definitely weren't keeping. Holding trout vertical can be very damaging for their vertebrae and spine, as well as their internal organs. In the natural world their bodies never go through these positions so holding them upright (although they may swim away at first) can cause the fish die.
Not trying to start any arguements, just a heads up. Tight lines.

This is why people don't post pics. Where are your pics Chuck? In the natural world fish don't eat metal either. If you really want to be a hero stop fishing.

The Alberta cutty record did not come from that spot.
It came from the south castle. I'm buddies with the fellow who holds that record.
He's a heck of a person and an excellent fisherman.
The record came from the South Castle... Where most people don't go cause of critters. Buddy won't even go there solo.
Castle has some excellent fish. Incredible bulls in the most unexpected places.
