Picked up fox number five yesterday. Not having much luck with coyotes anymore, still tracks around but I think they're getting wise to me. My power snares showed up yesterday so they'll be set out Saturday morning, I've been eyeing up some trails thought the cattails that look promising. Do you guys boil your power snares? What else should I do to prep them?
Thanks,

Had a good check today , 2 coyotes and a fox . Got there just in time to one set as an eagle had just found the coyote freshly caught and buzzed in for a snack . Wasn't dead yet , but that's just a formality to the bird .

Now I know where all our Lynx migrated to Mikawa...north! Had quite a few tracks in Nov but it slowed down big time. The line is pretty dead now except for wolverines now. Got one this week and there's a bunch more running around yet. Seems kinda strange to see more gulo tracks than Lynx or marten.
Will try to make post some pics next week. Just back home from a week long trapline expedition.

Any of you resident trappers ever caught any accidental catches of a quota species? caught this guy and will be taking it into F&W just wondering the chances of me being able to keep it.

At out last local meeting, it was brought up that resident trappers should not
be wary of bringing in incidentals. The more incidentals that are documented, the better chance of F&W seeing a need to change the regs.
Not postive, but think it was Gordy that mentioned that.

I had a good season this year with 25 coyotes, 20 foxes, a mink and a skunk in 6 weeks. Sucks that I had to pull my snares early this year, because of my truck breaking down.. Here's some pics of the season

I heard that the guys up there wernt catching many marten either, so that's a pretty big area already that's down. But heard the manning area was doing quite good with marten this year.

I'd like to know if my area was down or not. Hard to tell for me. I know if this is a low on my line I will be happy with it. My last check sucked for Marten but blamed it on the weather more than anything.
That would be frustrating Tork checking 80 boxes and only one weasel. Thank goodness you got those wolves or you would feel like giving it up.

I only run about 15 boxes on that loop nube, still not good but not as depressing . I'm headed out again in the morning to check and pull the rest. Today was way to cold to do the whole 80 km's

Isn't that the truth !! I caught a bobcat a couple years ago , one gave me a permit to keep it , the other wanted it seized and me charged for catching it . I like the first guy better ..

Looks good, Peter. Are you going to put your rats in for the February auction? I put mine in for the January auction and the price predictions are not very encouraging.

Went for a nice 3 mile walk in snowshoes on Sunday ! Brisk !!!! -38 to start the day was a little rough , but gotta check ! Nothing but a lone weasel ! But I was still happy ! That little bugger has stolen every peice of bait I coud put in the rat trap/ box set up . Broke out the golden nugget ( grouse heart ) kept from the fall ! He never had a chance , teeth buried in the meat and the trap on the back of his neck !
I also had not a single fresh coyote track anywhere on my home quarter or our other quarter a couple miles away . I set a bunch of trail sets and 5 or 6 along my shoe tracks when I weaved right next toa nice sized tree . Here's hoping there's one or two when I get home from work on Thursday!
Outta bait , can't seem to find any road kill , so just trying anything right now . I think that the deep snow around my place has slowed down the coyotes. I will definetely have a better plan next year ! Just hoping one of my neighbours has a cow tip over ....... Not really , but it would help !
I was debating trying moose or deer scent ? Any thoughts ?

Skunk essence.
I have caught a bunch in the past smearing a bunch of skunk essence in a willow patch full of snares. It you put up enough snares you will get them. They can't resist the smell of skunk it seems and will circle around in the willows looking for the smell. Maybe add a bit of Coyote lure as well
