I'm quite sure that scope didn't go on a Savage Axis.

Rem 700 Sps varmint (or any heavy barrell version)in 308 with a fixed 10 x scope will get you to 800 yards. If you don't handload get your hands on some federal 175 gr gold match and hopefully it likes them( or the 168s), 800 will be easily attained. Next on the list after that would maybe get the trigger lightened. Should be able to do all this under 1500.

Yes there's better guns , optics and calibres , but if you get an affordable rig like I described it will teach you a lot of things to know about long shots. Don't just jump into getting a pgw timber wolf. Like I've seen b4 with novice shooters.

My 308cents

Or you could spend half that amount and get closer.........

closer to what?

If your spending half that much to go under 800 you mean?

For half that, find a used vangaurd, howa or savage with an acutrigger or rifle basix trigger, and a used millet LRS 6-25x56 or a vector siegfried, should put you around half that price.

There is one in every crowd. Where or who in this thread mentioned hunting? I guess if you need to get closer to a steel or paper target to hit it that's your deal. I would keep it to myself though.

What do you guys think of the savage trophy predator hunter in 6.5 creedmoor. Ditch the scope to the .22, and put on a decent scope? Probably could be done around $1500.

There are more opinions out there about what rifle ....what scope most if not all well known rifles will fit the bill same as scopes. Drop by the shops handle some rifles...head to the range with friends and shoot their rifles find what fits you and what you like. If your chosen rig doesnt shoot the bug holes your looking for, learn the different accurizing techniques and have fun. Important thing is pick the rifle YOU love everything else will fall into place. Most well known rifle makers produce guns that are 1000 yd capable. Most shooters are not

I bought a Zeiss Conquest Rapid Z 600 and it has worked wonders for me. It comes in various models and range applications. There are other models out there in the Rapid Z series that you may want to look at on You Tube but I am just amazed at how my shooting has improved by using this scope.
