American Frontiersman magazine
I haven't seen nor heard of this publication before. I'm not a trapper nor a frontiersman, but I found this mag. very entertaining and informative. Articles on muzzle loaders, making wishbone traps, even an article on atlatl's, cowboy mouse traps, etc. It isn't cluttered with adds, there are some but not the usual abundance. It's published bi-annually on what appears to be recycled paper. I very much like this mag. Though that I'd share with those interested.

No I haven't heard of that one either. This American Frontiersman was buried in a pile of Chatelaine, Woman's World, etc. at the clinic waiting room. I asked the nurse if I could take it home.

I like the sections on how to build crappy things from bits of trash.

It just started up last year I believe, so there's only a few issues out, but I agree it's a good one. I used to enjoy Backwoodsman Quarterly as well, but eventually got sick of all the articles on blacksmithing, fishing, and antique guns, none of which is interesting to me. Much of the bushcraft seems pointless as well. I doubt I'll ever need to make a picnic table out of sticks. If I do, I'll probably be able to lash one up without needing to have seen a crude illustration of what it should look like. Also the general tone seems very amateur-ish. Lots of spelling mistakes and rambling sections. For these reasons I found American Frontiersman very refreshing.

I'll have to find a copy.
Speaking of advertising, a friend has been loaning me a bunch of Outdoor Life magazines, a year at a time, starting at 1956. I'm up to 1960 now. One of the things I notice about the advertising is that most ads are actually promoting something which is likely to be interesting to the hunter, fisherman, or camper. Ads for guides and outfitters, rifles and ammunition, fishing eqipment, boats, etc. In other words, products which enable one to enjoy spending more time in the great outdoors. In contrast, a modern Outdoor Life features ads for Viagra; the use of which actually cuts into hunting and fishing time. I wonder if this is just indicative of an aging readership. Leeper
