Default Ducks?

Edmonton. Went to a few DU sites this week and did not see them in the swampy puddles anymore. Are they still abundant in the open 'pothole' lakes or are they gone' South?
Any info would be much appreciated.

Put some miles on your truck and go find them

I seen several today!!! Swamp and ponds. Small reals haven't really seen any mallards at all ever. (Also my first year in the game!)

I've been hunting around Red Deer and. noticed that the numbers for ducks and geese aren't like they were a week or so ago.

Having said that driving to Stettler for pheasant hunt on Friday saw thousands of geese.
Could be the local birds in your area have been driven out and with the warmer weather the northern birds haven't started to migrate yet.

Duck shortage in the south here right now.. I've decided totake the weekend off as much as it pains me. A good deal of canadas are here though. Local ducks are gone with very few migrators showing up

I haven't been seeing much for geese and ducks...been putting a lot of km on my truck looking. Did get a field shot for mallards and some geese for tonight. Probably 400-500 mallards feeding there and maybe 50 or so geese. See what tonight turns up. Waiting on some northern birds to come

Default Thanks

It's funny I see a ton of geese in these open field Ponds, even close to roadways. Some ducks, but when I'm out hunting in the swampy bushy ponds I don't see many at all. So I guess I'll have to wait for some of the northern birds to start coming down. Love to do a hunt for geese but It's just me and an SUV so probably not enough decoys to get it done properly. What's the minimum number of decoys in a field to bring in geese? Thoughts?
Thanks!

We've noticed a shortage of ducks over the last 3 wks in the usual area we hunt, going a bit north helped, they are concentrated in pockets, have to go find them.
We saw a field with enough ducks in our area, that it looked like a large snow or speck feeding flock when it took off. We saw that and said, "hey, no wonder there are no ducks around, they are all here!!" Likely 25,000+ ducks in one flock. Lots of geese though, more than usual.

Bearski, a knowledgeable hunter (not me) just told me you can do fine on 10-12 goose decoys. Obviously more is better, especially for bad days or bigger flocks. I have 3 so...

I keep hearing that a laydown blind may be unavoidable too, or good sit-up ability and a nice camo/burlap cover or something.
