Evening To Remember
A quick photo of the best two hunters I know...Dad is 72 and doesn't like mornings like he use too. Couple of hip replacements and bad knee didn't stop him from answering the call today....Found a small mallard shoot no more than 200 feeding in the morning. Knew they would be in the field early in the afternoon with the change in weather... Got set up quick with only 24 silos at 2:45 today...last shot 3:15 pm...Had some grass in the field used for cover and sat on buckets...been nearly 10 years since we have not used a layout..left a trailer with layouts and full bodies at home and went old school..Boy is it nice to stand up and shoot....reminded me of my youth.... I put them in the hole going left to right and dad did the damage...the shotgun is his favourite it is 60 yrs old as he bought it for $12.00 when he was 12...he retired it a number of years ago but brought it out today for ducks only.....Buzz was a rock and performed flawlessly again....We have shot tons of birds in our lives but these 16 were some of the sweetest as I shared a rare private day with my Dad, and I pray I am blessed with many more...

Must be a VERY old Merkel!!
I thought it was a Remington because of the cross pin in te wrist.
The receiver looks straight as well, I'm not sure when Merlkel started to scallop their receivers, never seen a straight Merkel like that - great shotgun and again, fantastic print worthy of a place of honour on any wall, for sure!

I lost my Dad three years ago. He was my best hunting partner. Cherish that day. They don't last.

Congrats on a fine day and super pic. My birth cert says 1941 as well so your dad and I have lots in common. A love of the outdoors and still able to do the things we enjoy keeps the sap running. I, too, am like Cat. Some more pics of that shot gun would be nice. Almost makes me want to get the Bonehill out for another outing.

I would put money on it that it's a Remington.
Tell ya what, if it IS a Merkel and not a Remington I'll build a box of waterfowl ammo for him!
