Beauty bull! Love the northern BC area as well. Driving through Stone Mountain PP saw an unbelievable number of animals.
'Receiver sights' meaning good old iron sights yes?

That guide reminds me of my father. Old school.

Yes, receiver sights are open sights (Peep sights). Much quicker at shorter range and very accurate. I grew up shooting with a peep sight. Back in "Those Days", scopes were not very reliable and not nearly as rugged and as dependable as today's scopes. Plus growing up in Vermont, most shots were under 50 yards.... Here's a little better photo of my rifle. It's a Winchester Model 70, 30-06 made in 1954.
