Default rangefinders?

just recieved a bushnell bowhunter (chuck adams edition) rangefinder with ARC technology as a gift. Been playing with it all morning and love it. Looked at some reviews on google and some hate it and some love it. So far I love it but only had it for a few hours. Thought I was pretty good at judgeing distances but learned not as good as I thought.
Wonder what the rest of you guys use and any comments or tips about rangefinders and their use.

I personally use the vortex ranger 1000 and I love it. It is compact and i have to say I love the red laser display (which can be adjusted for brightness). In saying that, my brother has the Bushnell chuck adams and he seems to like it

I have the Vortex Ranger and it works well for what I use it for. I use it primarily for bow hunting and also rifle hunting but I'm not shooting at distances over 300 yards most times.

Bushnel is actually one of the leaders whenit comes to range finder technology.

They sell more range finders than anyone by far. Just about every golfer than ownes one has a bushnell

The ARc technology is better than the angle compensation is many of the more expensive range finders.

For bowhunting it will do everything you need it to and more.

I currently have a Leopold, Nikon and and Bushnell and I find my Bushnell works the best and is the best at marking the target.

I had an older Bushnell and it was ok....but it emitted a sound when it was acquiring targets....if you were bow hunting and used it close to an animal (60-70 yards and less) the animals would hear it and spook. I could never figure it out until I heard it while ranging one time.

I grabbed a set of Geovids on sale a few years back and never looked back.

For bow hunting only I chose the Nikon Archer's Choice and it has worked flawlessly for the last 3 years. I also own a vortex 1000 which has bow mode and angle compensation but I still use the Nikon due to its quick targeting and personal preference.

Had the first original Bushnell Scout...that one is laying on an elk trail somewhere l loved that rangefinder, was quite and worked under any condition...

Then I saw a compact leoupold with red display so I bought the Leopold
RX-1000i TBR with DNA Digital Laser Rangefinder thinking it had the red display ...but it doesnt still outstanding rangefinder

http://www.leupold.com/hunting-shoot...-rangefinders/

Been bowhunting for some 40 years...still wouldnt leave home without one...for blinds and stands I range every rock, twig and bug...lol well ok 20-30-40-50-and 60 yds anyway...

Its amazing how deceptive certain spots can be like over waterholes in a stand...one may think its only 25yds but in true ARC its 40 yds..regardless on make , every bowhunter should have one...

I have a bushnell G1300 and it work great. This was also a gift and I was a bit unsure at first because my first range finder was a lower end bushnell and it was terrible. Turned out, this is the best range finder I have owned.

this is interesting , I plan on using ground blinds and have just been practicing on the flat. It seems strange to me that rifle shooting on steeper angles the yardage is ussually shorter. Say 400 yrds shoots like 360 , how is it opposite with a bow?
I bought a Leica 1600 for hunting and love it, haven't played with the ballistic angle compensation though I guess I'll have to play with it some.

:using a Treestand for example ...l------X base of treestand to target= 30yds

-Up in tree the just for easy math 30FT [10yds] Angle in degrees ... 31.6yds.. thats line of sight to target...

For Example without getting in a whole mathmatics

For a right triangle .... A squared + B Squared = C squared

Height (A) 10yds
Horizontal distance (B) 10 yds
Angular distance (C) 14.1 yds This is what a non ARC rangefinder will give you for the line of sight distance, you want to shoot for 10 yds.

Height (A) 10yds
Horizontal distance (B) 20 yds
Angular distance (C) 22.4 yds This is what a non ARC rangefinder will give you for the line of sight distance, you want to shoot for 20 yds.

Height (A) 10yds
Horizontal distance (B) 30 yds
Angular distance (C) 31.6 yds This is what a non ARC rangefinder will give you for the line of sight distance, you want to shoot for 30 yds.

NOW up in that tree I dont have pen and paper caculator or the smarts so the ARC caculates all that for me...

If the world is flat ...base of treestand to target...30yds...10 yds up line of sight is now 31.6 yds...as a non ARC will read...ARC says ....plus this ,minus that multiplied by those...AIM 30 YDS..instantly...

I dont argue ...learnt from mistakes... learnt to bend at the waist and shoot for the horizontal distance.

I shoot 30 yds...things die

lol

Basically ARC is reading base of tree distance to target.... from up in tree...with a little adjustment just cause...

[math is approximate and only for entertainment purposes] lol

I just bough a bushnell sport 550 yesterday on sale at Cabelas. Not one of those fancy angular detector kinds but just enough to hopefully save me from either missing or wounding an animal. Very glad I have one now and will hopefully justify its purchase in a couple of weeks (to the wife haha). I made a deal with the wife that if I can put a moose on the ground, I get to buy a new bow
