Default .270 Weatherby Magnum.

Does anyone shoot one? The kid is wanting to buy one, we have been readying up on it and its ballistics are great, in the nosler manual it stats you can load 130 grain accubond at 3400 fps with rl19.

Does anyone have any first hand reviews? Thanks.

If you are going to reload for it....I would try to source components before I picked one up, brass is $$$!

The 270wby has some fast accurate loads...My cousins 270wby easily does 3400' With the 130grain nosler.....I have a 270wby aswell, but it just collects dust,(safe Queen)because I hunt with some other rifles I got.

You can form 270 Wby brass with 7mm Rem Mag brass as simply as falling off a log almost. Don't let brass spook you.

What's your opinion on the 270 weatherby, Chuck?

I've never used it but would happily use one. Although I think I'd prefer the 7mm Wby. :-)

I received a 270 Weatherby in the mail a couple weeks back. It's a Sako 995, I traded for on CGN. Last weekend I tried it out with 130 TTSX bullets. groups were from just under 1/2" to just under 1" with RL22. More than enough accuracy and energy in my opinion for any hunting I intend to do.

I have many years of shooting the 7mm wby. I think it is very under - rated. I would also steer you to the 7mm.

My Mkv Deluxe 270 Wby will shoot 130 grain Acubonds at 3550 fps using IMR 7828ssc into 9/10's inch groups at 100 yards all day long. For a factory rifle, it's as good as any.
Brass can be made from 7mm Rem Mag but it's a bit short in the neck so I'd rather not use it. I couldn't find any 270 brass when I got mine but I found lots of new 7mm Wby brass for cheap at a gun show and necked it down.

I am more of a fan of cartridges utilizing .284" bullets, but the 270 Weatherby will safely produce velocities of 3400-3450fps with a 26" barrel, so it does offer some pretty impressive ballistics. If someone is actually producing velocities of 3550fps with a 26" barrel and 130gr bullets, I don't want to be near them when they are shooting the rifle, in case the excess chamber pressure results in the case, or even the rifle coming apart, next to someone's face.

check out Bashaw Sports Special page...270 Weatherby Mark V $999 plus $200 for brake....the 270 Wby seems to be everything the 26 Nosler wants to be...Prophet River had 270 Wby in Ruger #1 for $1199 a month back. The Red Deer gun show had unfired Weatherby brass in 270 Wby for $30 a box.

I build one and killed a few animals with it. Its a great cartridge but as others have stated, be prepared to loosen your wallet if you will be buying factory ammo. I had the 130 TTSX going 3,450 fps, printing 1/2 MOA. A good AO forum member now owns it

I have one but it is a gilliard barrel on a rem. action. It is my favorite rifle. I've used accubonds, ballistic tips, tsx, ttsx, and now lrx in it and it has shot all of them extremely well. Getting 3450fps using 7828 is quite common with excellent accuracy. If you have a really tough time finding brass pm me-I might be able to spare 50.
