Bow hunting goals?
I have always had goals for certain species with my bow. For whitetail it was 150+, mule dear 170+, elk 300+, moose 160+, antelope 67+ and any legal bighorn sheep would be amazing. I have been lucky enough to reach those goals with whitetail, muledeer and antelope and look forward to trying to reach the rest. I was wondering if any one else sets personal goals for them selves while bow hunting?

My biggest goal when bow hunting is to make a one shot clean kill....no matter how big or small the critter is.

I think that a ethical shot, clean kill and filling the freezer is everyone's basic goals. I was thinking beyond that, maybe a first elk, harvesting an animal with a friend, or that once in a life time Boone and crocket animal.

To watch whatever I shoot at fall over. The best tracking is the kind you do when you don't really have to.
First elk, as always. Season #8, they don't come easy.

Ambitions
I just like to hunt and I'll hunt anything I can with the bow. I really try not to make it a contest or a matter of checking off my bucket list. Clean kills, meat in the freezer, friendships that stuff is most important to me.

My wife should have her mulie draw this year, would love to help her get her first archery kill on a nice buck. Goal for myself is archery elk, the mighty elk have eluded my arrow so far

One shot kills, complete pass through, that's all I ask for if I am fortunate enough to draw on a animal I wish to take.

As mentioned a quick and humane shot should be everyones main goal...when younger My personal was a book animal in all species I hunted...I have achieved that in all but the Big Horn Ram...hopefully I can snag a tag before I get too old to roam the mountains and forfill that...
On several I was even fourtunate enough to achieved B&C class with the bow, although it was a goal ...it never was an obsession...I love the BBQ too much...lol
As a matter of fact most now I will take an fine tablefare critter over the book class animal given the chance...
My main goal now is just being out there for the adventure...
Neil

Haha I've got ducks and gophers. Best gopher was 40 yards but I sold my compound and getting used to my recurve. My goal is fill the freezer this fall with my traditional bow. Gold tip arrows but recurve. And a beaver, always wanted a beaver with a bow.

Still hoping for my first big game animal with a bow. Will be trying hard for elk, moose and whitetails. If a wolf happens by well ....

I want to get my first moose, I have been trying very hard for 5 seasons, hopefully season #6 is the one!!! Also, I would like to try to limit out on ruffies all from the same group with the same arrow. My record is 3 and I missed the fourth. Shoot one, get arrow, shoot another, get arrow, shoot another, get arrow etc etc...it is quite fun and they are actually dumb enough to stand around while you nock your arrow again lol.

Hahaha oh I'm aware. But yes a beaver would work great, use it's pelt for on the shelf of my recurve to make it a little quieter.

lol...the last one I shot with the bow dove down and latched on to something on the bottom...that was early evening...came back the next morning still was down...came back at noon and it finally floated up...it was done quickly but they can hang on the bottom brush until the bloat... they even do this with rifle/shotgun unless it a head smack.....so if you do shoot one ...wait wait wait !!!
Stretched mine in a round willow stretcher left it in the stretcher for a buffalo skull centered...

Good luck on getting your grande masters. That would be a great accomplishment. I would like to shoot for that one day as well. Right now the small game award is kicking my but. I need a fish or a migratory bird. I will have to add that to the list this year I guess.

Setting personal goals , and focusing on those goals, is how I have spent the last 30years of my 40 years bowhunting. Still working on it, would like to shoot a pope and young, from each one of the legal species in alberta. Grizzly, bison and goat is what I have left, hoping to get drawing for goat, and bison hope that one day I can apply for a grizzly draw again. At this stage i am more focused on helping others get started, and enjoying the fellowship. But let me tell u if I get drawing for anything still missing on my list, I will be focusing 110% on reaching my goal.
Great topic nice to see others goals, good table fare and shot placement are on the top of my list also.

My first
Will be out for moose in late september and will hunt whitetail as I get time to. Just looking for my first harvest. A spike horn bull or a 50".... Either will suit me just fine. Split horn or 150" buck , I care not.
Good luck guys and gals
