Default coyote calling

Coyotes are getting a little too close to the yard (cats and chickens and whatnot). Today I saw one about 200 yards from the house, only thing between him and a load of 00 buck was my dogs. Lucky bugger.

how well does calling them work (rabbit distress, etc)? Saw this fella in a clearing about 100 yards by 40 yards. Could I call them into the clearing and git em? or should I set up where I have more field of view?

Pup in distress call would put him in your lap ... unless he's really being a pain , I'd leave him til winter .

for the pelt? or because of possible pups?

new batch of 50 chicks come in soon, and the cats and the jack russel sometimes spend a long time outside alone. I'd rather get the yote(s) and not risk losing chickens or pets.

For both .. but I see your point , coyotes like to eat pets and chicken .

Pup distress mixed with female coyote brought 2 in during Easter break, to about 70 yards. And they didn't see us or wind us, which was weird they came up wind to us. That's the good thing about a decoy. Good luck, I'd shoot him even if the pelt ain't worth it.

Wait till winter so you don't starve pups in the den.

Default calls and decoys

What call are you planning on using, electic or a classic mouth call? I call them in all the time with lighting jack or any distress call. set up in a down wind spot with the best field of view, ive had them come rite into 40 yards to 250 yards. Also the rabbbit decoy works like a charm ive never seen yotes come from the bush at a dead run till they almost pick it up and run with it. if you got the money i personlly suggest a decoy nothing but good things with mine and it keep there attention of you.

Smile The pups

Around here the pups are out of the den and they are very hungry. I need to shoot some too. We have our own pups and a large coyote got within 30 yards of the front door, and 10 yards from my cat.

I think you should shoot. I will.

One of my buddy's has a dog who was putting the hurt on one the other night, but two other were closing in fast on the pup.
In cases like this I could care less about coyote rights, coyote pup rights, or whether their fur is prime or not.
