Sons priority, now BC res
My son has lived in BC for 2 yrs now.
He as changed his WIN status so all is ok there.
He will be back for a hunt with us in late Sept and wants in on June draws.
So will he keep his priorities in the draws he is now still elligeable for ?
He knows he is no longer elligeable for some draws like cow elk and doe MD.
But will his priority still be the same for bull moose and MD buck as a non res ?

He will of course need a hunter host. He will have to enter draws along with his hunter host and the application will be entered as priority one.
The next year they apply together, they would move up in their priority.

I'm not so sure he loses his current priorities.
And does not have to apply with his host, can apply with another current AB res win #.
He just has to hunt with the AB host.
I do know the draw ap with other AB Win # will take lowest P.

I assumed he would apply with his hunter host. You are correct about another AB res.
So you say he assumes the AB res priority, but retains his own?

I don't know the answer, but will guess that his priority level will remain despite the different residency status. I suspect the only change would be the need for a hunter host, applying with a resident, and limited to draw licences available to NR.
TBark, ask the RELM Help Desk at 1‑888‑944‑5494 or email drawhunt@ca.ibm.com

The way I hope it plays out is...
The priority stays with his WIN #, but fewer draws now available to him.
Hope he keeps his MD buck and bull moose priorities as those are avail to non res.
And assume he loses his cow elk priority status, AB res only.
I guess I'll make a call.

I doubt he will Lose his cow elk priority, he just can't use it while he is a NR. If he moved back to Alberta, the priority points would be available to be used again.
Please let us know what Alberta RELM says. Maybe email them instead of a call, that way you will have the answer in writing.

???
He doesn't "assume" anything; he keeps the priority he already had.

I always thought you lost your priority when you moved to a new province...

He looses no priority to anything but needs a host. For the draws that are for residents only he does not loose that priority he just is not aloud to apply or use it till he becomes a resident again. You never loose your priority.

Got an answer from RELM.
Hi;
He will keep all of his priorities. He will however only be allowed to apply for "antlered" animals as a non-resident and he will need to apply with an Alberta resident.
The priorities he has for antlerless animals will remain on his file indefinitely. If he becomes an Alberta resident again he will be allowed to apply for the antlerless animals with the priority that he left off with. For example if he had a priority 3 for draw code 19 Antlerless Elk, it will remain on his file until he is able to apply again for that draw code, so if in 2018 he is eligible to apply for Antlerless Elk he will go into the draw with the priority 3.
I hope I was able to clarify this for you and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you,
