Can anyone remind who was post threads of modifying cheap shotguns last year? Just looking for the user's name so I can search for his threads. Just bought a fixer upper. Thanks.

What brand of gun and what do you want to do with it?

I answered my own question it was 1899b that was playing around last year. I see now that I take another look at the threads I was thinking of he was cutting barrels on single shots. Not sure that is in the works for mine.

I bought a Savage 67E, not sure what I plan on doing with it once I get it functioning, quite possibly just shoot it. This is what the seller had to say about it:

"the slide catch doesn't seem to lock the forend/bolt in closed position when pumped forward. If you hold the gun upside down when you pump it, it works fine. Looking on the net, it sounds like the little spring on the slide lock is not putting enough pressure on the bolt. Maybe it needs a cleaning or the spring tweeked, I don't know."

Just acquired a Springfield/Savage 67E 12 guage with a 30" barrel for cheap. I bought it with the knowledge that it needs some TLC. The main issue is that when the fore end is pumped forwards the bolt does not lock unless you hold the slide lock release down. If you do not hold it down the bolt will not lock. The previous owner and I think that it is the slide lock release spring causing the issue. Thoughts? Any idea what this barrel would be choked as or any way to tell(ie. barrel markings)? I would like to shoot steel out of it if that's possible.

Here is a parts diagram of said rifle: http://www.okiegunsmithshop.com/savage_67.jpg

Sounds like a spring issue, yup.
I had one with the same problem last year, got the part from Western gun Parts IIRC.

Thanks, Cat. I was hoping you would make an appearance. I will give Western gun Parts a shout tomorrow.

You'll have to take the gun apart and make sure you have the part number for the the part you need , they don't normally give you any advice there, they just sell parts!

Is it going to create confusion if I tell them it's a Springfield/Savage? There is so many names for this thing. Apparently went by Savage 30 too.

Savage 30 is the one I have in my book ( VERY old book!!)
But the gun I repaired was a Springfield.

Thought I would update this thread. After a bit of confusion and a lot of discussions with Cat, I ordered parts from WGP and they arrived today. Pleasantly surprised with dealing with WGP as I had heard they were a bit difficult to deal with. I ordered parts on Wednesday and they arrived today, so fast service for sure. Just waiting on a gunsmithing screwdriver set so I don't wreck any screws. Once that arrives I will be finishing disassembly, redoing the stock and then getting it back up and running.

Found out it is a full choke barrel as all 30" barrels were full choke.
