Here's a couple pics for you 300mag of a couple more bears we got. Both these were shot at about 200 yards. The top one only gave us one shot and then it bolted into the bush. Straight broadside shot through both lungs. It made it just into the bush in the background. The bottom bear took four shots from me and a friend. The first shot took out the left shoulder. It made it about 200 yards down the side of the mountain and we found it also just into the bush a short ways. I think they may naturally stop just into the bush to figure out what has happened after they are shot but that's just a theory. These are about average in size. Hope the photos get you pumped for your trip.

No resume required, just thought you where one of the guys that didn't hunt or fish on this site. No offense intended.

Here is a northern be mountain grizz that I was able to tag along on.

Bdub and bbo, thanks for posting those pics.....seeing those has made me even more excited (didn't think that was possible, lol). All of them are amazing looking critters for sure.

Heck, I'll be happy to see a couple like those, let alone have a chance at one!!

Thanks for clearing that up.

I do...for over 40 years although this year I didn't get out much....I had to ration my time while taking some second career training.
I also fish but don't really visit those threads.

I can't remember where I read that the 200gr partition was a better penetrator than the 220gr. Based on experience and design the 220 was a better pill from the '06 than a Uber mag.
I would use the TSX but would not cancel if 200gr partitions flew the best. Although I would use a bigger gun to hunt grizz, thats another thread.

I can't remember his exact hand load but I know it was a 338 loaded down to 338-06 velocities. He's a ttsx kind of guy so I would imagine that's what was on top. Rifle was a stainless m77 ruger with a McMillan stock

Geez. I didn't realize a Grizz's heart and lungs were in his rectum.

I used to keep a short barreled 458 Win Mag for bear defence. Yes the 458 will have more knock down power and I can manage it. But I'm not trying to be a tough guy and realize I can shoot a 30-06 MUCH better than the 458. I now keep a short light 30-06 rifle for bear defence. I shoot it better and have faster follow-up shots. 220 grain partitions or 180 grain Barnes bullets are my choice. And the magazine hold more rounds in a 30-06. For hunting I would feel fine with a 30-06 too.
