Default what gauge wire to support snare?

What gauge wire should I be using to support a coyote snare? Can I use the same for a wolf snare?

I use the thick stuff that halfords sells, I think it is 9 gauge. My power snares are a little shorter so I can get away with some thinner stuff

#9 wire for wolf and #11 for coyotes and lynx. Home hardware sells the wire on large rolls for far less then Halfords.

I have heard #9 for coyote but I don't like it cause it is too thick and costs more. I use #11 for mine and it is great stuff. It seems to be hard to find at times when I have needed it so I stock up when I can.

I don't use support wires at all. What I do is set up a stick and hang the snare off of it with some hay wire

In my expereince all you need for coyote and wolf snares is 11ga wire when hanging from a tree or bush. 14ga or haywire is fine for lynx snares which are usually made of smaller cable and loop size thus less weight.

Wolf snare supported by 11ga wire:

Fer-Tak-Er I use #9 wire. It fits snug with the wammy's.

What type of whammy are you using?

I use a 3/32 double ferrule for a whammy on my 5/64th coyote and wolf snares. This ferrule fits well on the 11ga wire. I often think people are confusing the 11ga wire for 9ga but I could be wrong. The 11 ga works very well for me.
